all non TML cant say no fast enough - really NJD trades to young guys under contract for 1 yr of marner, OTT gives up a high 1st and chychrun for 1 yr of aging taveras these are absurd

Boston's 1st will be 25-32. Tavares at half retained is very valuable for a young team looking for veteran leadership.

Devils have the cap space to re-sign Marner. I think his number will come under 12 million. It's a fair trade considering Marner is the best player in the deal.

marner may be but NJD is giving up a ppg 25yo (under contract for 7 yrs) and the 2OA (that is 20yo) bad trade long term for NJD.

the OTT deal is awful for them, to get chych they gave high 1st and 2x 2nd and now trading him and low 1st to get 1 yr of 34yo taveras - if they want/need veteran leader way better go UFA route get someone cheaper without losing so much

I can appreciate the retaining salary on Tavares to bring this into the realm of possibility, but it just doesn't work for the Sens. while it's not like Tavares a bum at this point, he's definitely taken a step back this season. he's a stop-gap option at best for 2C and Pinto may already have that covered even if you don't factor in Norris because of the injury stuff. and you don't give up over two 1st round picks of value for a 33 year old 3C, especially when the Sens have at least 2 and probably 3 other good internal options for that anyway.

Devils get the best player, a Selke nominee as a winger, who is still young enough to fit in with the Hughes-led cup window. It makes all the sense in the world.

It makes zero sense.

We wouldn’t trade Bratt for Marner. We wouldn’t trade Nemec for Marner. Why would we trade both for Marner?

That's an easy thing to do on July 1. Treliving will have to start reworking this roster. Punting another year is not good enough.

So trade them Nylander. He has 8 years attached

Because Marner is better than both of them.

Jersey would never do that, they get like 20 pts extra a year for a player who will cost 4 million more after figuring out the extension AND they have to add a franchise defenseman on an ELC?

Extend Marner, retain him down to $7.8m, add a 20-year old top pair RHD…then it’s close

At that point the return would be both Hughes brothers. I think this deal makes more sense for the Devils.

Marner alone does not even come close to paying for either Bratt or Nemec.

HARD PASS.
