Again, if you want to dump Brodie on Calgary you can pay to do so. Delusional to think a team out of the playoffs would pay for a UFA.

You made the team worse

Why so people make wild comments like this with no support to what they say at all .
Brodie is up to 40 turnovers , Borgen has 12 hmm ya way worse! Brodie has 31 hits , Borgen has 144 hits hmm ya Brodie is way better you are so right!
Liljegren has 25 turnovers and 57 hits while Bogosian has 18 turnovers and 84 hits hmm ya real loss there!
Not to mention al this while losing almost no draft picks and getting a real top 4 right hand defense with term!
Such a joke!

Brodie is not a dump dude he is worth at least that even as a UFA!
Once you trade Hanifin you will need NHL capable defenders and at this price your GM will bite guaranteed.

The team got worse:
1. You gave a top-4 veteran defenseman not only to a team that doesn't need one; but for a 4th rounder?
2. Bogosian is not the gritty defenseman you think he is and he's not even better than Timmins.
3. I don't mind acquiring Borgen but you massively overpaid. Liljegren is a top-4 as well so what's the point?
4. The Duclair one is alright.

On what planet is Brodie better then Borgen? Brodie can NOT play on the right side, he is a left defense and everyone else but Keefe and you knows this.
Brodie is 100% more physical and exactly the partner Rielly needs so you pay for it and plus Borgen has term cheap.
Look up Bogosian stats a true stay at home physical defender exactly what we need for playoffs plus he was already a TML so we know what he brings!Yes his physicality has come down but stilla solid 3rd liner or depth if you use Giordano.

This logic just screams that you don't watch Seattle - but their hit totals is all you care about. Brodie doesn't hit but he defends in other ways and while he is having a down-year he is still a top-4 defenseman and it makes no sense to trade him. I like Borgen and I would want him on our team but at the expense of giving up roster players instead of prospects and picks? It makes no sense. Bogosian statistics are ass so I don't know what you're getting at. We literally watched him in the bubble and he wasn't this stay-at-home defenseman at all. Did we get past the first round that year when we had Bogo in the lineup?

Defense isn't just about hitting guys and not having turnovers. Brodie (21:54) and Lijegren (19:27) both have a much higher TOI than Borgen (17:31). Brodie also blocks more shots and has more takeaways. All of this doesn't even consider what it does to a locker room or team chemistry when you throw a blender at it right before playoffs. Just saying the picture is bigger than the one you present.

I agree that the trade is fine, but why do so many people want to send Gregor back to San Jose? They declined to issue him a QO to retain his rights and his cap hit could be completely buried. I know the Leafs are at 48/50 contracts, but the other trades would net them 2 additional contract slots.

Gregor is terrible and to be honest the real return for SJS are the picks - I can see both teams accepting and I can also see SJS not comfortable taking Gregor back.

I don't necessarily see them having an issue taking him back, I just don't see why a team like the Leafs doesn't just bury him unless the concern is the number of contracts. It was always amusing listening to Randy Hahn (Sharks broadcaster) sounding excited when Gregor was on a breakaway...he generated a lot of chances, but they almost never actually went in. It was among the many drinking games Sharks fans have. Some of the others:

Referring to the Coyotes as the Desert Dogs (Randy is aware of this one and has in the past just said, "Desert Dogs, Desert Dogs, Desert Dogs" to mess with us)
When playing the Jets, refer to Westside Story (they haven't made the reference in a few years so this one's kind of died out).
"Icing on the power play, that's never a good thing."
"Long Beach Native Matt Nieto."
