Everytime I see a Leafs trade I’m reminded of how little valuable assets they have.

This is how every non leaf fan sees the leafs no matter who's involved. A 24 year old top 4 defenceman has no value only because he's a leaf.

The quote should include the word 'tradeable' before assets. They shouldn't be looking to move Liljegren as he plays a key role for them now, and will be even more when Brodie and Giordano move on. You can't move him for a rental. Minten, Cowen and Niemela represent the prospect pool for your team in two years. The lack of assets the Leafs have to trade is a direct result trades done the past few years for players who have moved on:

Ryan O'Reilly - Lost a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for 24 games played by R O'R and 34 games by Noel Acciari including playoffs.
Erik Gustafsson - Lost Rasmus Sandin, but got a 1st rounder too (Easton Cowan)
Luke Schenn - Cost a 3rd rounder to Van (ended up being a good prospect in Sawyer Mynio)
Sam Lafferty - Cost a 1st and 2nd for him and McCabe, recouped a 5th rounder from Van for him and two of Chicago's 5th rounders
Noel Acciari - See Ryan O'R
Ilya Lyubushkin - Cost a 2nd rounder in 2025
Nick Foligno - Cost a 1st and two 4ths
David Rittich - Cost a 3rd rounder
And of course the very tragic death of a promising young Rodion Amirov.

Give Kyle Dubas credit forbeing aggressive, but he also bears the brunt of the blame for emptying the cupboards and not having much to show for it.

That offer for Laughton might be the worst I've seen so far.

Flyers fans want high end 2C returns for a 3C 20 point player.

Considering Sean Monahan just got a 1st round pick and is a pending UFA, I think the ask for a 1st rounder for Laughton is a fair price. I also think retaining down to 1.5M for 2 more years would add value to his trade price.

He also doesn't offer the offence Monahan does. He is a decently defensive bottom 6 forward. That isn't worth as much as you guys want it to be.

This has nothing to do with Flyers fans.....multiple credible individuals have said that they were offers of a 1st and a 2nd in the off-season and that the Flyers want a 1st for him. We don't have to trade him, if they don't get what they want he is on a very reasonable deal for the next 2 years.

If the ask is a first and "credible reports" said a 1st and 2nd was offered, why hasn't he been traded. Seems like the reports are dubious

They don't want to trade Laughton, he is the only guy on the team with a letter and is a great leader. Should they have taken that offer in the off-season? Yes. Things have changed, Ryan Poehling has been a pleasant surprise and offers some of the same on ice things that Laughts does. And they just extended Poehling for 2 more years. So at this point if they get a good offer they will move Laughton. With the lack of centers on the market especially ones with term there is a chance they get a 1st or the value of a 1st.

Cool story. He's not worth what you guys want

No. It’s cause he’s not good. Just like in years past Leafs fans tried to sell Gardiner like he was something good, except he too sucked.

And Rielly, and Brodie (after he signed in TO) and literal anyone else who's a leaf. You guys are so weird just cheer for a team and he happy about their success. Hoping for other teams to fail more than liking your own team is just tragical negative

Ha! Is this an Oilers fan throwing shade at the Leafs? By valuable assets I'm assuming the context involves young talent. Now, you mean to tell me the Oilers have more valuable assets? Anyone of Knies, Cowen or Minten alone trump anything in your system by a mile. How do people confidently belt out such absurdities like this.

Let’s not turn this into a pissing contest and stay on topic. In regards to the prospects the leaf’s have:
Knies is failing to show he can be a Top 6. Probably tops out as a bottom 6 grinder. Minten has seen ZERO progress as a junior player, huge red flag, need to see year over year significant increases in production to even have a CHANCE at making the NHL. Arrows are way down. Cowan is the only one with still decent potential left, and probably why he’s the one least included in trade proposals.
