I think Ekholm is a great d-man. But not elite one. In my opinion, elite d-men are Karlsson, Doughty, Keith, Josi, Ellis, Weber Pietrangelo ..Ekholm is not on that level. No way! But he's great for sure.
Duchene have just one below average season. Last one. But Avs were terrible as a team last season. So, it doesn't count at all. He has great career numbers in general. So I think my trade is fair.
Duchene in his 8 seasons has only topped 30 goals once (30) and has only topped 40 assists twice (40, 47) [not in the same season as the 30 goal campaign]. Ekholm is 7th in WAR ranking (Josi is 21, Doughty is 17, Keith is 32, Weber is 15, Pietrangelo is 43, Karlsson is 2)
Ekholm produces #1 level HERO Charts, but has "2" less TOI blocks. If we were to compare him to Doughty, Keith, Karlsson, Josi, Ellis, Weber, Pietrangelo, here is what we would find:
Ekholm - 4 per 1 TOI (24/6)
Josi - 3.11 per 1 TOI (28/9)
Keith - 3 per 1 TOI (27/9)
Ellis : 4.66 per 1 TOI (28/6)
Weber - 2.66 per 1 TOI (24/9)
Doughty - 2.6 per 1 TOI (26/10)
Pietrangelo - 3 per TOI (27/9)
E. Karlsson - 3.3 per 1 TOI (33/10)
Per the HERO Charts [found on
http://ownthepuck.blogspot.com) Ekholm is second on scaled value, better than then all of the elite defenders that you had said, expect for Ellis.
Matt Duchene Hero Chart is equal to that of a 2nd line center in 2015-2017. here are the following for the past 5 years:
2011-2013 : 23 (TOI 7)
2012-2014 : 25 (TOI 7)
2013-2015 : 25 (TOI 8)
2014-2016 : 25 (TOI 7)
2015-2017 : 22 (TOI 7)
Average HERO : 24 (TOI 7.2)
It can be concluded that matt duchene experiences the same HERO Chart rating equal to a 2c/quote]
It's a good point. I admit it. Maybe you're right. Maybe don't. Ithink it's an arguable subject. That's why the armchair is so interesting.
Thank you for your explanation.
