Columbus declines. Boqvist > Timmins, and taking Timmins back does nothing to solve the RD logjam. It probably costs more than a 3rd to dump Kampf as well, who's redundant and a downgrade as long as Kuraly is here.

Leafs pass on Dallas Arizona and Florida plus Arizona likely declines and the leafs aren’t trading kampf, leafs aren’t signing zadorov cause they aren’t trading Benoit and he’s zadorov 2.0 at 1/4 the price makes zero sense

11 new players out of 23 is considered a re-tool?

Adding 15 UFAs to the organization is considered a re-tool?

5 out of 8 defensemen new is a re-tool?

Seems to be a massive stretch just to underpay key RFAs/UFAs, just to have a bunch of "meh" players to surround the big 4. And the bottom 2 trades are just bad, ARZ moves up less than 15 picks to the bottom of round 1 for 2 2nds, a 1st rounder breaking in and a 5th? Just all seems desperate and imaginative.

I think the Leafs lost their opportunity to re-tool when they decided to not trade Marner in the summer. A major re-tool would require one of Marner, Matthews, Tavares, Nylander, or Rielly gets moved, somehow, somewhere.

I don't know which one would be the right one to move but it's the same team with the periphery players expected to make up the difference at bargain bin prices.

I think Marner is the piece of the core to bring back multiple pieces like a prospect, defenseman, and goalie or at least enough cap space to sign or trade for #1 goalie like Lankinen
