Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Leafs are not in cap hell.

A year and a half from now JT and Marner come off the books and the cap will go up an additional 4-5 million. That's 27 million. If the Leafs re-sign Marner at 12 and JT at 6, that's 18, leaving 9 million to lock up RFAs like Woll, Knies, and Liljegren. So this team can be kept together. And if they're not good enough, if they get knocked out again in round 1 or 2, then Treliving has the luxury of saying goodbye to JT and Marner, giving him 22 million to rebuild the defense and remake the team.

LOL chill , this trash team is worse then last year which is now and we are NOT winning a cup so that will in no way shape or form come close to winning a cup.

I agree. But Leafs will have the financial flexibility in 2 years to remold this team if they don't win, with Matthews and Nylander locked up and in their prime, and young cheap guys like Knies and Cowan potentially stepping into important roles. So the future looks bright.

So now we have to wait 3 years to try to win a cup? LOL TML are scrwed the backed themselves in a corner with 4 contracts 3 are full NMC so can NEVER be traded and then Matthews who you would be stupid to trade. I am not waiting 3 more years if they lose this playoffs I am done.

The original sin of this era of the Leafs was signing JT. Leafs didn't need another franchise center. But Dubass got trigger happy.

In 3 years this team has the potential to be a real contender if Treliving is smart and does what needs to be done, which is sign and/or trade for three top 4 defencemen.

It makes me laugh how Marner has out performed Willie every year since coming into the league. But now because Willie is playing way over his past numbers he is more important to keep than Mitch. Willie has a full NMC so he will never be traded, l have a bad feeling his contract in 3yrs will not be good.

In the playoffs Nylander has outperformed Marner. Marner is not a big game player like Willy. That's the reality.

And this contract will age nicely if Nylander keeps at his current level because the cap will continue to increase for the next several years.

NMC does not mean they will "never" be traded. Its obviously unlikely but they can still agree to waive those clauses if they see fit. If Treliving was able to convince a guy like Tavares for example that it would be for the betterment of the team if they could trade him and he agreed to waive the clause (again unlikely) then it is do able.

Ya I am sure Dubas was like, well PIT did it with Sid and Geno !
The problem is here we are putting everything on the line waiting for cap to go up !
That is not a plan but just being stupid!

No I do not think they will at all, I was just pointing out the fact that NMC's do not make moving a player impossible is all.
