If they had expressed any interest in Monahan in the off season they would have just signed him they wouldn’t have traded the 1st they got for Newhook for him and that’s ignoring the fact he isn’t a good fit and isn’t healthy for a whole season ever.

Ritchie was a top-10 ranked prospect before a major shoulder injury and he's been solid since being cleared to play this season. He's the only C prospect worth a darn. CMac should deal from a position of strength, notably D prospects. If Ritchie is being dealt, it has to be someone better than Sean Question Mark Monahan

Who’s better than him that you can get for that cheap? 2 way gritty veteran centre who can play on any line on a contender. At least that will be Montreals pitch until his body breaks down again 😂

Not that I disagree with you, but Monahan never got to free agency. MTL re-signed him before he could test the market.

No thanks from Colorado. Not getting a roster player, a 1st, and an extra pick for Monahan. Glad that he’s stayed healthy so far this season, hope he can avoid the injury bug.

You don’t think teams let players know they are interested in them before free agency starts?

Yes and no. If teams and players know they won't sign an extension right before free agency, it's pretty common knowledge that the agent reaches out to other teams. That's why there are so many signatures as soon as free agency opens.
But if a team wants to re-sign the player, why would they let the agent reach out to other teams? Not to mention teams have traded draft picks to acquire a player's rights a few days before free agency so they can negotiate before anybody else. If agents could simply reach out to other teams whenever they liked, we would never see those types of trades.

Yes and if COL had any interest you don’t think he wouldn’t have taken that opportunity over MTL given he signed a 1 yr deal?

I'd pass. They might as well just add a 1st and go get Elias Lindholm

Absolute no from the Avs. There is no individual piece in there that Colorado trades for Sean Monahan except maybe the third, let alone all three pieces.
