Have you considered firing Tony D into the Sun instead? I'm not sure if he'll still count against the cap or not, but I wouldn't mind if the Bruins tossed you a 7th for doing it.

I would be more than happy to fire Tony D into the sun but I'm pretty sure a buyout is going to do more cap harm than good

Addison isn’t any better

Addison has nearly the same defensive analytical numbers according to natural stat as TDA on a much worse defensive team... he'll been be better than TDA when put in our system. Evolving Hockey indicates that he has been better overall on both sides of the puck than TDA. JFresh's model indicates that he's a middle-of-the-pack defensive defensemen compared to Tony who's usually very very low on EV Defense metic

Regardless the sharks just traded for him a low 5th and a decent prospect, flipping him for a high 4th seems like a total waste of assets

Isn't he just going to get sold off at the deadline with the likes of Hertl, Duclair, Zadina and etc?
I'm sure we can throw a decent prospect or a higher-round pick but he seems like a very good fit

I would highly question all of those metrics when he has played such few minutes over the last 2 seasons. He is small, loses his guy regularly and loses net front battles regularly. About 0 percent chance he plays over Chatfield

This is a more down-the-road kind of move in case they want to let Pesce walk in free agency and move Chatfield up to play 2RD. I agree that Chatfield would start over him but he's a much more desirable 7D right now than TDA and you can move him into the lineup if you need a spark on the PP without that 3rd pairing being a leaky sieve defensively

Isn't Morrow the replacement for Burns? I could've sworn the plan was for it to be Alexander Nikishin and Scott Morrow be the top pairing.

Maybe but we need 2 to play the hard RHD minutes on the right side and it wont be addison

I don't see Addison as anything more than a depth piece... I was saying if they can't bring Pesce back (and we send Morrow down for a little bit to acclimate before bringing him up) the logical choice would be Chatfield being that 2RD temporarily... he's shown that he can temporarily play top-four minutes

We have that piece in coghlan or honka. No need wasting a pick on a guy that won’t play or bring anything we don’t already have

That's fair enough... I was thinking we need to shoot TDA into the sun and I don't trust Coghlan in that 7D role and Honka is an unproven commodity at the NHL level

Im cool with shooting TDA to the sun. We’ll likely see him get back in more as Orlov gets comfortable in the system
