That seems fine, steep price to pay but if Montembault and Monahan continue to perform and are on the market, this might be what it takes to get them

I wouldn't trade either of Turcotte or the 1st for that entire package, let alone both of them and JAD.

Monty gets a 2nd = Turcotte

Monahan is probably a late 1st = 1st and Dolan

This is fine but it depends on what the market is for a goalie. Right now there's three teams that consider themselves contenders that all need a goalie and if they offer more up for Monty then this gets turned down

Am I missing something? Why would the Kings give up a their 3rd 1st round pick in 3 years and their single best forward prospect (who is currently leading their AHL team in scoring) for two rentals, especially when they already have a goalie putting up Vezina-worthy numbers and more left-handed wingers than they know what to do with?

If both players had an extra year remaining on their respective contracts and Montreal was willing to retain ~30% on each of their deals, then maybe I'd consider it. As it stands, there's absolutely nothing in that package worth a 1st round pick.

The same world as last year when Montreal fans insisted that he was going to return a 1st. He didn't and he won't. Assuming he can stay healthy all season (very unlikely) and keep up his production, the Artturi Lehkonen trade is a good comparable. So a 2nd and a decent prospect (i.e. not one as good as Turcotte) if Montreal retains 50%.

Monahan is a 3rd line winger on the Kings and Montembeault is a backup goaltender, and both are UFAs at the end of the season. This is a huge overpayment.

The Lehkonen trade was literally the equivalent of a 1st rd pick (Barron) and a 2nd rd pick....

Then this trade is the equivalent of two 1st round picks (if not more) since Turcotte was 5th overall.

I don't know why the kings would do it but that's typically what the rental price is around TDL. Every year teams trying to win a cup give up picks for players to only play a couple months and the way Monahan has played he definitely warrants a 1st and as far as Monty goes his main value is his low AAV for a NHL quality goalie, that should be worth a 2nd.

All depends on what the kings needs are what price their comfortable to pay

5th overall 4 years ago and still isn't a regular NHL player. I know injuries have set him back but he doesn't have that value anymore

If we're using former draft position as "equivalents" then Montreal should be just fine taking Bjornfot and a 2nd for him. Don't forget the 50% retention.

Turcotte has higher value now than Barron did when he was traded. Now that he's healthy, he has looked every bit the #5 overall pick so far this season. He's currently leading the Reign in scoring. He'll be the next call-up to the Kings when they suffer their next inevitable forward injury.

Did LA waited too long to trade away their underperforming high profile prospects !?!?

I'm no scout but I bring up the Yakupov scenario...

The Kings don't need any more left-handed wingers. Talbot is currently one of the front-runners for the Vezina, so they don't need Montembeault for anything more than a backup goaltender.

If this is the price Montreal is looking for, they should look elsewhere.

Yakupov didn't miss the better part of 3 seasons with injuries. Now that Turcotte is healthy, he looks every bit the player they drafted. Expect to see him in the NHL before the season is over.

What a weak position to take lol Barron has been living up to his 1st rd pick pedigree. Turcotte has not, and is clearly not worth a 1st anymore.

I'd take Turcotte over Monahan right now.
