Trades
DET
  1. Lindström, Gustav
  2. 2025 4th round pick (DET)
MTL
  1. Petry, Jeff

Of course, Detroit didn't paid that high for him, but he take a spot on the Red Wings line up and he is not the same player as he was with the Habs. Plus, he takes way too much unnecessary penalties.

I think the Hronek trade was a mistake too for him, I think the value was fair but look at where he is in league scoring, he’s elite

Montreal is currently paying the same amount for Petry as Detroit is for what a 4th round pick and an AHL dman. Yzerman's mistake ok whatever you say buddy!

The mistake is taking a chance with Petry, not what Montreal received.

This trade can also become a mistake, but Hronek never really fit well with the Red Wings. I belive he will have a break out season, but I hope for you that's not for this season only.

So Yzerman's big mistake resulted in the loss of a 4th round pick and an AHL dman.

Yzerman’s track record is good, but wouldn’t say it’s mistake free.

Ya thats pretty ignorant of the whole trade tree.

The habs gave up

Mike hoffman (negative value)
Rem pitlick
2.34 in retention on petry

For

A 2nd
A 3rd
A 4th
Legare
And lindstrom

They made out like bandits in the full sequence.

Don't get it twisted.
Hronek is good, but he is extremely streaky. His current play is a result of both a good streak and because he's with Quinn Hughes. He'll come down. He's been the sole contributor of several lost games in a season.
I make that Pellikka trade 100/100, especially considering that Pellikka is going to smash the U19 record for goals scored by a defenseman in the SHL (already tied it).

Yzerman has made several mistakes;
Signing Chiarot, Signing Copp, Drafting Cossa over Wallstedt...

This is not one of them. Lindstrom wasn't even a 7th d-man on Detroit.

With Seider Hronek was never going to get top pair minutes and was always going to be #2. I always liked Hronek and I'm glad he has found success in Vancouver but Detroit did draft Axel Sandin Pellikka with the pick they received from Vancouver so it's still way to early to call a winner in that trade.

Pellikka has already tied the league record for goals by a U19 D-man.

By no means am I a Red Wings fan. I'm a Hawks fan that grew up in the era that we did not like each other. With that said, I've been someone that's recognized why Yzerman's done with TBL and thought the DRW got their guy back home and cups we're just going to come. Maybe not in 1 year or 2, but they were just going to show up one day. I'm beginning to question the "Yzerplan". NOT because his plan is bad, but I'm really beginning to think he's hired subpar scouts in Detroit and the guys he's drafted aren't panning out. Only time will tell and his 1st ever pick...obviously a freakin home run. It's been 5 drafts and SO FAR he's got Sieder. Raymond was supposed to be drafted #3 or #4. Are we really going to call Kyle Davidson a god gm because he drafted Bedard at #1? Heck, no. Davidson...when it comes to drafted talent...gets zero credit for doing the obvious.

Ultimately wins/losses are what matters and getting Debrincat to sign for that contract is a HUGE HUGE win. Love Debrincat and his game. Hawks fans know how good he is. He just didn't fit our timeline. The Yzerplan needs Cossa, Kaspar, Danielson, Edvinsson, ASP, Biuim, Dylan James...a number of these guys need to be NHLers.

***EDIT*** When it comes to the Wheat Kings...Roger McQueen is good.

Taking a very low-risk chance (very low acquisition cost, low AAV, and only a year left on the deal) on a veteran player like Petry shouldn't be called a mistake even if nothing good came out of it because they haven't lost anything really either. Who knows? Maybe they benefit from that move in the future off the ice.

Not a fan of Petry but that trade isn't a mistake. LOL

Lindstrom was like #8 on their depth chart and wasn't very good when he played.

You missed the entire point. The habs retaining on petry and dumping him was the cost of acquiring several assets.

A 2nd 3rd and 4th + whatever pearson potentially brings is well over a 1st in value and all they gave up some cap space (and got a free dump of hoffman)

Anyone who plays with Chiarot is going to look bad. His signing was the very worst decision Yzerman's made as Detroit's GM.

I think the point you're making is quite moot.
Also, a 2nd + 3rd + 4th + a bottom-6 guy does not get a 1st lmao what.

I think it'll be a win-win trade in the long run. Hronek and Seider are both due big contracts and I don't think it would've made sense to have both of them at $7m+ for where we're at right now
