In general...I'm always a fan of keeping your "own rental" assuming you're a contending squad. It's hard for me to understand how most are okay with giving up picks and prospects to bring guys IN at the deadline to bolster a playoff run but are not okay with giving up on picks and prospects that we'd get by trading away a big pending UFA. If anything...keeping the player you know works and fits in your system is far less risky then giving up assets to bring in someone new with a few weeks left in the season.

Also...and this is more Nylander specific...his laid back attitude leads me to believe that we'll find an extension with him that is palatable. I'm completely fine giving up on any futures we'd receive to keep him on the roster. It gives us the best chance at winning this year, the best chance at re-signing him, and doesn't give any bad signals to everyone else in the dressing room that the team is giving up on them for the year.

But that's my opinion.

If management knows for sure that he's planning on testing free agency no matter what...that would change my mind. But as long as there's a decent chance he wants to get a deal done, you keep him here.

There's been a ton of talk about Detroit shopping around Berggren as of late, and I honestly wonder about a prospect swap. I guess Detroit wants to get him a fresh start, and it kinda seems like the Leafs want to do the same with Robertson. Keefe just does not seem to trust Robby, and he is so much better off going elsewhere. This team (and or Keefe) is failing Robertson. Berggren seems like a player that Keefe really likes, and Detroit is a team willing to take chances. If we were to move Robby, Berggren would be my guy.
