start of season Timmins on LTIR

Description
Yikes....lack of NHL depth on defence.
I waived Lafferty to get a 21 man roster and had Robertson making the Leafs Both looked good in pre season (if that means anything) On a personal note, feel sorry Timmins getting injured, and might be semi long term with an knee injury. Such an innocent play.

Knee injury....could be out months. An innocent, relatively soft hit against the boards,,,somehow his knee get crunched. It's on YouTube.
Yeah, he had a good chance to show if was NHL good enough....lots of opportunities with the Leafs this season. Speedy recovery to the young man.

Darn I just saw the news. That sucks. I was excited for them to give him a proper shot this year. Now it is very unlikely. Makes our cap situation a little easier though.

It might help the cap a bit.....if the Leafs can find a just a good NHL Dman to take his place at cheaper cap. But geez, the Leafs are really thin on NHL Dman talent.

Definitely - Our forward and goaltending depth is very good, Our defensive depth is lacking.

Benoit played like 19 minutes a game last year, so he should easily be able to fill a 7th slot. I wouldn't want him to play more than 12 mins if he were in though. But Lagesson and Lajoie don't do much for me. And we have no one in the AHL as a RD who I would be comfortable calling up.

Maybe the Leafs claim Lassi Thompson now that Timmins is hurt? Gives us a bit of RD depth? He would need to start in the NHL though, meaning Benoît might need to be waived or Holmberg sent down.

Interesting thought on Lassi Thompson. Funny how he may not be good enough for Sens, could clear waivers all the way down to Leafs. Well whoever replaces Timmins, it's good opportunity for that player. Good luck to that young man.

To be fair - Ottawa has a very hard d core to crack. Their defence is looking nice. But yes Thompson as a potential short term option for the Leafs on RD could be a solution. Timmins was going to be our 7th D. Thompson shares a few similar traits, but his cap hit is lower. If he doesn't pan out, which would be the most probable outcome, you just chuck him back on waivers.

I don't see claiming him, being much of a risk for the Leafs. It won't expose anyone else who we would really want to keep.

We will see how it plays out.

I wonder if the Leafs think he the solution if only temporary, do they trade for him. At least the Sens get something more than having him claimed off waivers.

Thompson is on waivers right now. It's too late for the Sens in that regard. They will either lose him by tomorrow or not. Although if he clears, his value would actually go up a bit and a team may trade for him then. If he clears, I would chuck a low end pick to Ottawa for him and he can play as a RD with Niemela and Villeneuve in the AHL.

Is he really hurt or are you going to go all Tonya Harding on him?

There is no benefit to Leafs faking an injury on 1.1m player. He still has to be replaced by another making about the same $$$ player. Especially in the Leafs case, where they have little NHL Dman depth, his injury hurts.
What would may help the Leafs is in Tavares was on LTIR for lets half a season. 5.5m in cap. 1.5m in his replacement and another spent 4m on other players.

Who said anything about faking? Tonya Harding's ex husband paid a guy to take out Nancy Kerrigan. He hit her in the knee of her landing leg with a police baton but she wasn't hurt that bad.

I said that tongue in cheek

Thanks for confirming the tongue in cheek. Such bad luck for Timmins, such a soft, innocent hit puts him LTIR.
