That's understandable. The low retention is definitely not the best - and the one thing keeping it from an A+ trade for me. So I think it's fair worry about the cap hit.

But the low retention is probably how he was able to get him so cheap while also dumping those contracts. Who knows what Dubas would have had to add extra if he wanted like 30% retention. It's not perfect - but I would still say the team is definitely better after the trade - even accounting for EK cap hit
