In my opinion, I don't want to tie up longer than 2 year deals for anyone that is NOT expendable because of Doughty's upcoming contract. I'd rather overpay for the 2 years than extend to 3-4 years.

Actually, no, they aren't screwed when Gaborik comes back. If you look at the cap relief given for the LTIR, it is only 1.2 million, and he has 1.7 million in cap space. In addition, someone will be sent down giving at the very least 640k in cap space (if it was Dowd, who is on the lowest contract on the pro squad). So, with all that said, he has 500k in cap space as of right now and another 640k at the very least to spare when Gaborik comes back. With 1.14 million to work with, he can give those RFA's their money.
