Who else would be a candidate to go straight from ELC to $8m+ extension?

2024 RFAs
Power
Seider
Beniers

(Lundell, Raymond, Mercer, Kent Johnson Jarvis will get paid, but not that much).

2025 RFAs
McTavish
Luke Hughes

(Wyatt Johnston? Guenther? Quinn? Slafkovsky?)

2026 RFAs
Bedard
Fantilli
Cooley

(Nemec, Jiricek, if they don’t slide. Carlsson?).

Wouldn’t be surprised if Bedard goes straight to double digits like McDavid

The summer of alcohol related incidents I guess.

Reporting from Europe claims stl Kasperi Kapanen suspected of aggravated dui. Idk what that crime means in terms of severity or potential rehabilitation.

Was probably the summer Kapanen should have trained his ass off.

You’re prob lookin at a 10 million dollar Dui.

I wanna add: the nhls various insurance providers are only going to accept so much of this.

And the union will protect its members.

Teams will be forced to remove alcohol, or perhaps find some aspects of the ordeal uninsurable/very cost prohibitive, if a positive trend persists. Somebody’s account will be sending Kapanen millions of dollars for playing hockey while he’s chillin in rehab from offseason partying (potentially ofc).

Is he in breach of contract? Can he possibly be physically ready for the season if he is incarcerated, in rehab, or in recovery from an alcohol related incident? Can his contract be void?

I think galchenyuk set the standard.

If kapanen’s situation is similar to galchenyuks:

Stl should be able to void his contract - took Arizona about 48 hours iirc. All stl has to do is point at galchenyuk.

The fourth period has a list of everyone with a NTC/NMC this year and there are some very interesting names, it's a fun pass through if you want to laugh at Gm's.

Seems like the readers of this forum discovered this news faster than the gm of the blues.

“ Armstrong: Today we became aware of the incident involving Kasperi and I have spoken with him and his agent.”

Life Advice: Do not do this. If somebody relies on you heavily, and something bad happens, and no matter what it won’t be kept secret, let them know. Be the source of the news yourself. Don’t let them find out the way doug Armstrong found out. You’ll be amazed how understanding and forgiving, dare I even say helpful, people are when they have time to react to challenging situations, when their hands aren’t bound.

Oh snap.

Brisebois:

“Yesterday, I was informed by Josh’s agent, and by Josh himself in a subsequent conversation, that he was not planning on playing hockey for the time being and that he would not be reporting to training camp. Consequently, Josh was placed on unconditional waivers earlier today for the purpose of terminating his contract.

“We wish Josh, his wife Bailey, and their entire family the very best in their future endeavors.”

Big blow for Tampa and their forward depth. I'm a big fan of Archie's game, one of the best bottom six fwds in the league for my money.

I was surprised when Tampa signed Archibald, I was really hoping they'd leave a spot for Koepke. Archibald was obviously someone Tampa wanted, they gave him 2 years. Maybe a guy like Brown can work, but I hope Koepke gets the call.

Hope all is well in his personal life

Tampa signed Tyler Motte, most likely to replace Archibald

Kind of funny how Tampa 2 years ago was almost willing to overpay for Motte

Now they get him for free

Top 3 teams I’m kinda pumped for that aren’t my team:

Toronto for sure. So many additions. Really different team, plus Knies will progress. They’re also among those who went “all in” last year but they’re the only one on the other side that’s looking way better. The other “all in” groups such as NYR, BOS seem to all have either stayed the same or taken a step back.

Coyotes for sure. They are a legit 4 line forward group suddenly and there’s always room for guys like Cooley to come into the league and do well. It’s super cool to me that they’re in the west - we don’t play like they’re about to play as often as it’s found in the east.

And Chicago. I’m a blues fan.

I want to watch them destroy Bedards development by fielding fringe nhlers, putting Bedard into situations he cannot possibly succeed at, as well as situations he is not physically ready for. I despise everything about that organization. It will give me personal joy to watch him struggle to find time in the offensive zone with the other 4 skaters he will be forced to share the ice with. I can’t wait to watch and see if any one skater in their top 6 will get the puck out of the corner or if the 3 forwards on the ice will just stand and watch as they did previously. That’s u Taylor hall, u Andreas athanasiou. If a cavity in the earth opened and swallowed that franchise I’d be happy.

Cheers.
