Bored? Murray can't be wished away on LTIR. Really think Brodie waives to the third worse team in the league, with a poor travel schedule?:

Granted Brodie only has a 10 team no trade clause. So there are 22 teams he can go to, without being asked. So who knows who is or isn't on that list.

Brodie is also the Leafs 2nd best dman. I have very little interest in trading him for a 3rd (or at all for that matter).

I know a lot of Anaheim fans say they would pass on this trade, but Brodie would be a great add and they can easily re-sell him for more at the deadline with retention.

True has actually 21 teams he could be traded to. But there are probably 20 teams (or more) right at the cap who can't afford his 5m cap. It's just no that easy this year with such a flat cap.
I went through list earlier today......18 teams easily without cap to take him, maybe more.
Ducks don't have a choice....no way is the Ducks on his to be traded trade list.

Unless Tree Loving is getting an upgrade the Leafs probably shouldn't trade Brodie. Someone has to play actual defense. McCabe can't do everything and Rielly needs a steady partner to cover up his deficiencies. He'll miss Schenn.

Why wouldn't Anaheim just go out and sign Dumba themselves. Doing that saves themselves a draft pick, cap space, real cash, and depending on the terms they set with Dumba, aren't hindered with a NTC trying to trade him at the deadline if they wish to do so.

Definitely - The problem with the Leafs D Core, as currently constructed, is that it isn't very physical. So I understand what the OP was doing here, but this d core is worse. McCabe is the only guy who is physical. All 6 guys are very good but only one throws the body. I thought they would use the Klingberg money on a physical guy.

Time will tell what they do. Not very many guys in the league would be considered physical and who are upgrades over Brodie and who would be available as well. The list turns to virtually zero at that point. MAYBE Parayko? But at what cost?

Sorry for rambling haha

Getting Brodie for a 3rd would be amazing for Anaheim. They could sign Dumba also. It would really shelter some of their young guys.

But like I said, Leafs should be keeping Brodie.

I know the Leafs have needed a bomb from the point on the PP for ages hence the Klingberg signing. But he's been brutally bad the past 2 seasons. I was surprised Tree Loving signed him. At least it's just for 1 year. I bet he regrets turning down that Dallas contract extension from last summer. 7 years 7 mil AAV. 🤔

I do love the idea of a McCabe and Klingberg pairing. It could turn out to be an amazing signing.

And he definitely regrets that haha

Yeah, I would love to keep Brodie....but it's a real cap problem keeping him.

How long ago did Elliot say that? Lol

Murray was pretty much 100% healthy enough to step into the second round during the playoffs (if they needed him).

He’s healthy brother

You have enough room to buyout Murray. He's not an LTIR candidate. His dead cap this year from a buyout would be ~$650,000.

He just said it the other day and the hockey guy released a video literally 30 mins ago talking about it if Murray can’t pass a physical he can’t be bought out so I’m wondering if he goes on ltir

I wouldn’t take Friedman’s word, when it comes to injury status, as gospel. To my knowledge Murray was near healthy enough to return during the FLA playoff series. How would it have gotten miraculously worse during off-season and not playing?

Murray probably rather go ltir so he can get all his money instead of being bought out idk I do think where there’s smoke there could be fire plus maybe the leafs have asked teams if they buy him out would any team sign him and if it’s a no it’s better for Murray and the leafs if he fails a physical just my opinion

Or he gets bought out and signs a lesser deal to recoup lost earnings. He’s also got to look ahead to the future. You think his ankle is bad enough to be injured in April 2022 and put him out of commission until +/- May 2023? Some players return from neck/back/hip surgery faster than that.

It’s more advantageous to him to play if he’s healthy than play along with pretending to be “hurt” to go on LTIR to help the Leafs. He’s 29 and won’t jeopardize sitting on LTIR and screwing himself on a future contract for next season. If he’s healthy, he will want to play, in hopes of putting up respectable numbers to secure a contract and continue his career

No I get it I understand what you mean but if no team is interested he doesn’t really have a choice but I agree if he’s fully healthy and he wants to keep playing and if another team would take a chance on him he will most likely be bought out but I do find it weird that Elliot mentioned him not passing a physical I just wonder if there’s something to that

I just watched the clip again.

At no point does Elliot say Murray IS injured. He said something along the lines of “he’s had injuries in the past so if he is injured, buying him out isn’t an option for the Leafs”.

TOR fans are clinging onto this interview as some sort of “proof” that Murray is hurt so he can go onto LTIR. But what I think Elliot is trying to communicate isn’t so much about the LTIR aspect of it, but moreso if Murray is hurt, a buyout won’t be an option right now.
