Garland doesn’t NEED a chance of scenery. He is younger, better offensively and defensively. You are going to have to pay to get out of Hextall’s mistake

I would think this is a mistake for Vancouver. They do like to make mistakes though.

I'd be ok with Granlund for Garland in principal because it gives us a center and gets us out of the 5 mil a yr earlier. But Pitt would need to add at least a 2nd, maybe even retain a bit for it to be truly considered.

That's a straight forward hockey deal. Pittsburgh doesn't need to add let alone add a 2nd.

I'm a Pittsburgh guy and you are crazy if you think this deal is perfectly fine straight up.

While i completely agree with you, We as Penguin fans watched Rutherford absolutely send it on some random trades that made 0 sense so like i agree pens should have to add to this trade but I wouldn't be shocked to see Rutherford go "Yeah, I like this lets do it"

I don't think this trade would move the needle for us. Still think we'd really struggle to make playoffs

I'm aware, but that doesn't mean he has no influence over trades.

Rutherford made plenty of great trades in his Penguin days, he also made head scratchers.

Well he isn’t the one making phone calls so we have yet to see a patented Rutherford trade

The guy that spent ~20 games in PIT needs a change of scenery? No he’s just overpaid and you want him out

What has been the biggest theme of this summer? Getting cap space for the summers of 2024,2025 and beyond. Not only does this deal get them out of what is essentially a 5million cap hit 1 year early, it saves them 6 million in real dollars as Garland's salary is about to jump. This is a as much a financial move as it is a hockey move for them.

Given Granlund's numbers compared to Garland he is worth more than the 1 year early and the $6mil in real they aren't gonna accept that trade 141. At least a draft pick would go back to VAN.

I don't think the Canucks would have interest in Granlund for Garland straight up. That is a clear downgrade in player value. Much rather just try to move Garland for nothing and sign a cheaper more defensively competent 3c. Even with a 2nd added, I'd only do it if no one else was willing to take Garland. So it's by no means a slam dunk with a 2nd.
