Nylander Traded To Vegas

Created by: KingExLeafs
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 7, 2023
Published: Jul. 7, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Here is another Nylander trade idea.

Every offseason Vegas goes for the big fish. One year it's Pacioretty, the next year it's Stone, then Pietrangelo and Eichel. Why would their aggression and ambition stop after they win a cup? I think they're trying to do everything possible to repeat and build a dynasty.

Yes, send a cap dump and an AHL filler in Timmins for one of the best DFD in the NHL... Why would Carolina do this? Pesce's better than Brodie. Timmins is meh when he's healthy, and the 1st doesn't help them now.

Brodie isn't a cap dump. He's the perfect replacement for Pesce in the Carolina system if they decide to move on from him.

I think 'perfect' might be sugar-coating it a bit, but fair play. In all reality, I believe Pesce's spot will be occupied by someone else. If a D comes back in a trade, he's going out the door in another trade.

He's a cap dump... he's a worse version of Pesce that you tried to move FOR Pesce. That is a cap dump. He holds 0 value to Carolina who already have Orlov, Skjei, and Slavin as LHD. He's not better than any of them. He's not better than Burns either. So I repeat, why would Carolina downgrade when they have this cartoony D core? The reason they'd move Pesce now is to get EK65. Brodie prohibits that

I wonder if Toronto is on Pesce's trade list. Hadn't thought of that.

Brodie plays the right side. Also, if Carolina gets Karlsson that would be a big mistake because him and Burns on the same team don't gel well together.

Other than being worse, older, and wrong handed, you've really got that argument tied in a neat bow.

Can I interest you in a quick Matthews for Necas swap while we're at it

Hurricanes can't afford it.

And Brodie is not much worse than Pesce. Canes fans think he's a cross between Lidstrom and Niedermayer. Pesce is a good defenceman on a good deal, but he's not a number 2 defenceman. He's a number 3/4, much like Brodie was in his prime.

Carolina are a good team and are capable of playing 2 gifted offensive defenseman together... you're judging this off of San Jose when... Burns and Karlsson never played together, let alone with partners that suit them like Orlov and Slavin?

Brodie is a LHD, Rod values LHD on the left, RHD on the right. Slavin, Burns and Skjei are just better. Downgrading from Pesce to Brodie ain't worth it

Timmins is a RHD. Rod can turn him into something special.

He's like RD number 5. Behind Burns, DeAngelo, Chatfield, Coghlan. Morrow too in a few years. If you think Timmins is the saving grace here, you need to restructure this. Bin Timmins and Brodie off elsewhere and start fresh

That's OK bc year 1 I was pretty f'cking great. But you guys were greater. We've been on this journey. No, no, no, listen to me. We've been waiting six long years for this guy to be MVP. Jonathan Marchesseault!

We’re not trading 2 1sts and the Conn Smyth to overpay Nylander. Marshy will take less to stay in Vegas. Hard hard pass

Vegas traded a top prospect for an aging pacioretty so I wouldn't put past their management group to be bold and bring in a winger in his prime.

6 years ago in search of a cup win lol. Cody Glass was also considered the top prospect at its time.

It doesn’t matter cause this is never going to happen, so no sense in going down a rabbit hole of nothing

It's not a rabbit hole. It's a bright boulevard. It might happen because it's Vegas which has a recent history of trading for the big name in free agency or the trade market every summer. Why should this summer be any different?

Who did we get last summer? After failing to make the playoffs what was the big splash? Phil Kessel lol
