4 Years for a 34 YO? Damn. AAV is decent, but the term is nuts

It's a lot for a backup goalie. How are they going to increase their scoring by bringing back the same team?

It looks like Sorokin took a discount to keep Varlamov in New York. So even if this deal looks bad on paper, it will be a huge boost for the isles in years 5-8 imo.

4 years paying almost 3M for a BACKUP goalie which is 34? This is one of those signings when a GM does it to make laughs about his former team when he get fired next season.

Fair enough cap hit for a very good 1b (probably 1a) goalie. But behind a stud so odd move to pay that much. And most importantly 4 years to a 35 year old goalie? What?

A bit of an overpayment, but generally not too bad.
Alex Lyon is getting 900k, and who knows if he's going to play at least 1 game in the NHL.
The same goes for Nedeljkovic in Pittsburgh, but 1.5 million for him.

Varly has proved to be solid, probably with no health issues too. He can be a starter on many NHL teams and will probably play 20+ games a season in Isles.
So I don't really understand why 2.75 million is considered so bad.

i am apparently in the minority over NYI's signings today but nevertheless.

Varlamov is an evergreen, ever consistent goaltender who is serviceable as a starter (given the right defence) and a backup. solid value and tenure with trade potential in a couple years if he trails off.

personally a fan of the low cost/longer tenure deals for NYI going forward.
