Market was probably in that AAV range, but damn that's way too long.

Good 2nd pairing defender. Term is nuts, but AAV is low enough where in years 4-7 this won't hurt because the cap has gone up so much.

There's no way Lou plans on being around long enough to see these deals to the end. I wonder if he's doing whatever he has to to keep cap hits down so he can do something big to try and win

Assuming salary cap will raise for at least 4M next season and maybe another significant raises after that, I'd have no problem with the AAV. But for 7 years?? A 30 years old top-6 player?? Even a good one, it's too risky to me.

As long as the cap is above 90 million dollars in four years, this deal won’t hurt the isles too much.

Lou is pillar of modern hockey, but seing him giving away 7 + years contracts like candy, one might wonder if he just doesn't care because we doesn't think he'll be around anymore when they go bad.

This is a joke about old people no giving a damn. Take it easy.

Mayfield still has two years left on that half decade you just lost.

He turns 31 the first or second week of the season. I wouldn't be shocked if he is an AHL-level player halfway through this contract.

At least he’ll still be 6’5 when he’s 38.
