Engvall looked good in New York though. 3 mil is a good dollar amount. It all comes back to the term. Decent deal in the short term IMO

his numbers skating with Nelson & Palmieri were great, so getting him for $3M AAV is worth it. The term is insane but Lou is clearly operating on the "who cares i'll be long outta here by then" philosophy.

He's a solid support piece in the top 6. 3 million is good value for that role.

Engvall gets middle 6 ice time at 5v5. He has scored goals at a top 6 rate in 2 straight seasons and is very good at generating offense and he's above average defensively. He was the primary driver of the isles best line (with nelson and palmieri). They outscored the opposition 15-4 and were among the most effective lines in the league for the last 2 months in the season.

This is still an overpay on term, but Engvall is a very good middle 6 winger who does a lot of things well.
