Caps don't consider that.
Backlund is worth more
Vladar is worth more
Tanev trade is probably fair-ish but i dont see them interested in a defenseman

Re caps: what then?

2 players 1 year from UFA aren't getting us a top 10 pick in this draft. It's really as simple as that. There is also a decent chance Michkov falls to #8 and the Caps will 100% want him if so

It would be criminal if Michkov fell to #8. Really dont think that is going to happen. He is attending the draft. Clearly showing his intention to play in the show.

MTL won't trade the 37th pick for a 34 year old while we're in a rebuild

He's an asset. Diversification isnt a bad idea when you've made a bunch of extra picks in the last few years.

Maybe, Montreal or Arizona could take him as I think Smith is going 4th. But if they opt for Bensen and Reinbacher at #5 and 6 there then I think Philly is skipping over the young Russian talent

Still No point in trading a high 2nd for a 34 year old while in a rebuild. not to mention he's a rental. Trade makes no sense for a rebuilding team and MTL passes. That 37th pick is more valuable to us right now than a 34 year old rental is.

Wild can't afford to bring in any salary cap and may need Beckman's low cap hit, so that's probably a no.
