Meier is getting paid this free agency, ever heard of a UFA? nobody is paying top picks and prospects just to not be able to resign him. If he had two years 1.5 mill then sure
Don't see how Meier can "get paid this free agency" as a UFA, seeing as he is actually an RFA this offseason. Even if Meier was a UFA after this season, that doesn't tank his value to make him worth nothing. As for nobody paying top picks and prospects for a guy they can't sign, that's called a rental and they happen all the time. Look at O'Reilly to Toronto (1st, 2nd, 3rd, Abramov, Gaudette), Tarasenko to New York (1st, 4th, Skinner, Blais), Giroux to Florida (1st, 3rd, Tippett). Teams also give up major hauls for rentals who they turn around and extend. Look at Horvat to New York (1st, Raty, Beauvillier) (signed 8 year extension 6 days later), Lindholm to Boston (1st, 2nd, 2nd, Vaakanainen, Moore) (signed 8 year extension the next day), Pageau to New York (1st, 2nd, 3rd) (signed 6 year extension the same day).
How about Killorn for a 7th. He's a UFA after this year so nobody is paying for a guy they can't resign, you might as well get some value for him before he becomes a UFA and gets paid.
