Chychrun in the third pair is a luxury. I generally now think that he is not the best target for trade.

Would hate loosing Krebs, Would actually want him playing with Crouse. But nothing in that trade really hurts other than Krebs.

The point is not in the package, but in the fact that it makes no sense to trade all this in order to play Chychrun in the third pair, and he himself will not agree to this trade. Apparently, he turned down an trade to Columbus last summer.

I know, but he decline trade in Columbus, and of course there was no point in Columbus trading for a guy like that. Chychrun appears to have some authority over where he goes, even if there is no NMC/NTC in the contract.

Boil it down to Henrique for Buffalo's 2023 2nd straight up and I think I take that.

Anaheim isn't giving picks back and the Vegas 2nd is basically a 3rd. In the proposed trade we're losing Rico for a 4th and moving up maybe 20 spots from the MIN 3rd to the VGS 2nd. And if that's all we're getting it makes more sense to not do the trade at all.

That was before Columbus landed Gaudreau, and I’m pretty sure I saw somewhere that said Chychrun would consider Columbus as a landing spot now. That being said, the Sabres would be better served going after someone like Demko as a target.

Yes, that was before Gaudreau signed and he just said no, naturally Columbus didn't make sense to trade anymore for a player who didn't want to play there.

I agree, Demko would be a good pickup, but we also need to improve defense, it just doesn't have to be Chychrun. There are cheaper and more desirable targets.

You think it's a luxury - Bryson -14 +/- is a loser for us and I think these high minutes for Dahlin and others led to them taking more penalties than normal - I'd rather roll defensive pairings instead of bragging how our D-man plays almost 30 min - I don't want tired D-men I'd rather the other team be tired because every pairing has someone you have to watch out for.

Trade for the defender of the third pair. Chychrun will not accept this role and there will be no trade.

Until next year, Chych has no say in where he goes. If Yotes want a hefty return, they need to move him before the tdl

That’s A LOT to pay for a 3rd pair defenseman that we’re just gonna have to turn around & flip in a year or so

He's already decline trade in Columbus this summer, he doesn't technically have an NMC/NTC, but he seems to have some control over where he goes. If he doesn't want to play for Columbus/Buffalo or whatever, then that team just won't trade for him.

It is amazing how much energy the team has after losing 8 in a row and 3-10 through 13 games.
Granato is a great coach.

The kid line looked really good against the Sharks.
Thompson, Tuch, Skinner played well together as usual
Krebs with Girgensons and Okposo controlled the puck in the offensive zone really well.
Casey, Victor and Jost looked best when they were on the bench.
A team that has Fitzgerald (-4 17 games) and Bryson (-14 21 games) as the fourth pairing, may sneak into the playoffs but is not a cup contender.

The Sabres have to find a third line, GK and another defenseman.
Crouse, fills the third line center maybe Asplund and Olofsson as his wingers.
Jakob helps with the defense but the team still need a GK.
Levi is probably 2 to 3 years away, 2024-2025 or 2025-2026

Target Luke Schenn for the 2023-2027 season, sign Ryan Johnson before he gets away and wait for Jakob when he is a free agent in 2025-2026.
Since Jakob (24 yo) attended Heritage High School with Kelly (26 yo) and Matthew (23 yo) Pegula he may sign with the Sabres.

That is a nice thing for AZ to do for him.

I only threw him in the third pair based off of having Lybushkin and Jokiharju on the right and I couldn't come up with a good trade to send out Jokiharju. I would put him with Power personally, but all depends how the team feels about having four lefties in the top four.

For what it is worth, I don't think Chychrun is a real fit for the team based off skillset and cost to acquire him. They could use another shutdown guy, but with the cap space, assets, and family connection, I can see why Chychrun to Buffalo would be a connection. I'm at least happy they aren't content with the progress of the young guys and are interested in bringing in good players.
