I love this deal, especially when compared to the Barzal deal from yesterday.
I'm sure Dallas would have loved to have locked him down for more than four years, but by the time they have to resign him, the cap will be a lot larger.
Not only this stupid Robo saga is over, Nill actually managed to sign him with probably one of the best contracts in the league.
MASSIVE W
Best contracts? It's a hefty bridge. At first glance I thought it was right to ufa. But it seems more like the Tkachuk contract. Walking papers in 4 years.

It's around 2 mil less than his performance warrants on the current market and he's still RFA. Also it's team friendly in terms of lasting longer than the contracts of Benn, Suter, Lindell etc. so we can let those guys go before worrying about signing him again.
It's affordable now, and it's length makes it potentially even more affordable in the future.
Only two things I'm worried about - the fact that the cap is about to increase (can turn into our favor too but can also mean Robo's next contract is McDavid money). And that it likely coincides with Johnston and Stankoven extensions.

It's a nearly 8m bridge deal. 2m less? A 10 million bridge? Are you insane? Seems a bit high to me. Stars should have been able to lock him up for 6-8 years in the 9-10 range. I don't understand how it took this long for a simple bridge.
But for the stars it's always a good thing to have Robertson in the lineup.

I dunno if you can 4 year deals bridge. Bridge deals usually have something to do with the player having to prove something or make a comeback after a worse year. This wasn't the case with Robo. It's just shorter than your regular 7-8 year deal top players after their ELCs tend to sign, which is why it stands out. This just made financially more sense to both parties involved I'd wager.
This can lead to us getting the best 12 years out of him, provided DAL can extend him with an 8 year deal afterwards. And given that he is still RFA it does give us some leverage.

No, a bridge deal is any deal that doesn't buy ufa years. This is a bridge deal. Since Robertson only has 2 nhl seasons they could go 4 instead of 3.
Robertson went from 17 goals in his first 54 games to 41 in the 74 last season. I would say he still has to prove he can keep that pace. I'd bet on him.
I called the Tkachuk trade the moment he signed his deal. I have a feeling Robertson may go the same way. The bridge deal with the high QO is a loophole for players to hit ufa one year early essentially. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Tkachuk went to Florida which has no state income tax. Dallas has no state income tax + they have an extremely bright future with a lot of high end talent. I’d bet he’ll re-sign with Dallas.

Tkachuk also had the blues on his list. It wasn't about state tax.
Make no mistake. Robertson's next deal will be no different than him being ufa. I can't say whether he wants out of Dallas. I'm not sure why they didn't make room to sign him long term.

He had St. Louis because he grew up there - other teams on his list: Dallas, Vegas, and Nashville. Most of the teams on his list had no state income tax.
It isn’t no different than being a UFA. Most players who are RFA with arb rights re-sign with their current team.

Bridge deal or not, financially speaking the point stands. 4 year deal benefits both Dallas and Robertson equally. What happens after this four year time is a question mark for future, but right now I don't really have any reason to believe he wants out, so calling it a Tkachuk-esque situation is veeeery premature.
17 goals to 41 goals is certainly a big jump, but he's pretty much played his whole career as a PPG guy, starting from year one.
Similar to the Tkachuk/DeBrincat deals a few years ago. It's a good price for Dallas, but the best case scenario was an 8 year deal. Wouldn't be surprised to see Robertson leave in a couple years.

Robertson signed for 4 years though not 8 years. If it was 8 years he'd be getting 8.5M-9M.
I also don't remember anyone saying 10M+ for Laine lol

The difference with DeBrincat is that we know his Qualifying offer is a minimum of $9M. Other than Tkachuk's $9M QO, the rest of the players you mentioned had QO's that were much lower than their market value. Robertson will command a minimum of $9.3M AAV after this bridge deal is up.
