Description
First of all lets be honest this season was a shocker in terms of how good these young kids actually are. The biggest mistake of the leafs organization for the better part of 10 years has been trading away our youth for quick fixes. Now given the amount of forwards this team has coming up to name a few. Lepisic, rychel, timashov, kapanen, korshkov,
gundstrom and more, I think its safe to say were looking pretty juicy for the future.
IMO the majority of leaf fans are getting way ahead of themselves "we need big time d right away". First of all we need a solid young dcore being Reilly,Gardiner and Z. We have 2 promising prospects of Neilsen and dermott who should easily fill in the line up in time. The one move I think the leafs should make short term is signing a right handed dman via FA that being franson. Cody gets pucks to the net and he is very responsible in the D zone and does not shy away from laying the body. I think I would be a big mistake trading nylander or kapanen with a pick for a right handed d man unless the price was right and LOU could pull it off. IMO the price for top 4dman is very high right now and the best route in developing in the system. We are not in a rush. I would resign Polak, and judging by the current articles it seems the leafs might be opting to sign holm and rosen. I'd happily see marincin be traded for a bag of pucks, I don't care what analytics say he lacks any common sense and grit given to be a NHL Dman. Carrick will go to Vegas there GM drafting him with the CAPS a few years back. I'd personally let hunwick go, hes a good guy and plays alright but lack's the speed and offensive creativity for our system.

Moving forward I would like to see bozak and JVR resigned. I am a firm believer in keeping the core together and given the offensive numbers put up as well the chemistry with marner I don't see the point in trading either of these guys right now. Both have great contracts for this year and if LOU can get them to buy into a potential good contract that would be great.

It sadness me to say Boyle will probally be moving on mainly for the role the leafs would want him to play. I really hope LOU can convince him to play 4th line minutes but I doubt he will want to plus I assume there will be better money somewhere else for him.

Pains me to trade away Komarov and I know hes a fan fav but I feel rychel can do his job and add more fire power.

As much as you mock Marincin, your choices to replace him certainly don't have the pedigree to be any better....Rosen and Holm. And considering how Marincin hadn't played for over a month and then suddenly was forced into the playoffs, he played "7th" man OK. And while I wish Polak could return, gee he was never the greatest skater and now. he has has surgery on his leg. Will he ever be NHL good again? And why would expose Carrick in the draft. The Leafs only have to protect Reilly, Gardiner and Carrick for the expansion draft.
Now I agree with would you say, the the Leafs shouldn't rush things and trade away futures for short term benefit. Dermot and Nielsen might be NHL ready soon. And the other trade possibility is to trade for a teams competent fourth or fifth defence man that can't be protected in the expansion draft.
JVR and Bozak: I just can't see the Leafs have the cap space to resign this guys. The way teams are constructed now, you overpay your stars but a lot of your team is composed of young guys in the ELC or second contracts that work cheaply so your cap works.

I disagree marincin has never been given a consistant chance in Edmonton or under babcock theres a big reason why figure it out. Yes rosen and Holm are long shots and may not work out. Clearly we have opposite views on Marinicin will leave it at that. If polak is able to come back than yes I do think we should resign him, He was a beast for us this year, geeeeee yeah go figure not the greatest skater good 1 pal your the next bob Mackenzie. Not sure why you would want to protect carrick over lets say rychel maybe we have to slip them a pick to take carrick, I personally would. Yes yes I know you disagree and I don't care because every comment you make on every single leaf post is narrow minded to your views. If you actually read my post you would of seen I wouldn't trade JVR or Bozak for """""NOW""""" and hopefully they would take cap friendly contracts next year, if not than OBV you move them. But hey in the words of the great padhal Dermott has no potential to be better than marincin, that tells me everything I need to know about how much you know about hockey. Keep chirping people bud your a idiot.

I highly doubt the leafs would trade Martin or Komarov as for the marincin trade don't count on it unless it's us making a deal with Vegas to take him in the expansion draft

I know I'm kind of jumping on what everyone else is saying, but 1. Carrick will be retained and not lost to Vegas as he'll be protected with Rielly and Gardiner since Z is exempt.
    2. Martin won't be traded but I could see Komarov being traded if someone was willing to pay the price.
    3. If someone offers something for Marincin than maybe they trade him but worst case scenario we push him to minors if Rosen/Holm prove to be capable.

I agree with muraca17 in almost everything you said except Komarov; he is the 2nd most used forward behind Mathews, good PK with Hyman and great chemistry with Kadri, that line in even strength has scored Komarov 9G, Kadri 20G and Brown 17G for a checking line against top lines every night I think not bad at all, 2nd on team in hits after Martin...his replacement will have to have a great drive train to take his job away, our best defensive forward.
For the long term I think Lou has set the line pretty well with Kadri's long term deal 4.5M and Reilly 5M. That is the most you get if you are not Matthews, Nylander, Marner...Zaitev 4.5M is very well signed, if Bozak and/or JVR agree around that amount will be extended, something like 4.5M Bozak 3 year and 5-5.5M JVR 4 years.
Martin has his role on the team and won't be exposed or traded.
The good thing about depth is camp will be great battle for jobs at forward, and the Marlies are going to have a pretty solid team to supply in case of injuries, but we still thin at D (right specially) and C
Marincin and Marchenko have 1 year left, if they don't stick on roster can send them down and have depth, next year thx and byebye like done with Percy etc

Is this the best post you can do, and you call someone who made a constructive critique an idiot? if case you wonder why Carrick is a much protected I don't know if you realize Rychel plays wing. I can't tell be your anger and your knowledge of the draft. So unless you want to go 8 forwards and protect only 2 defensemen, Carrick would best be protected.
"But hey in the words of the great padhal Dermott has no potential to be better than marincin, that tells me everything I need to know about how much you know about hockey." As you know if you could read, PalHal never wrote that. He actually said "Dermot and Nielsen" might be near NHL ready. Want personal attacks fine, but try to construct an good argument first.
