Team: 2022-23 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 11, 2022
Published: Jul. 11, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Kuemper to Washington seems like a done deal at this point, they add on the years to try to get the cap down. Yea it will be bad years 4-6 but the team will suck by then anyways. Sign Marchment or some other forward who can play up and down the lineup and will get less than 3.5 like Strome or Mikheyev. Keep Eller in case Lapierre/McMichael aren't ready yet. Bring back Irwin or an Irwin type on a vet min as a 7th/8th defenseman. Cap will be tight and require some roster move magic when Wilson and Backstrom get off LTIR, but there should be enough to activate everyone and only need to send down the healthy scratches. If cap problems come up, or the FAs come in a little higher, Eller is the first to get moved out and try Lapierre or Protas at 3c

Lines if everyone is healthy:
Ovi - Kuzy - Wilson
Marchment - McMichael - Mantha
Sheary - Backstrom - Oshie
Eller/AJF - Dowd - Hathaway

Fehervary - Carlson
Orlov - Jensen
Alexeyev/Johansen - TVR

I thought I saw somewhere saying he wanted $6mil x 4 years, which would be less total money than this package. Either way if it comes in higher than like I said in the description they can and probably will move Eller

I think this team is better than people think it will be, especially if Kuemper is as good in the regular season as he was in Colorado last year. A lot of people forget that as late as mid december basically a worse version of this lineup was tied with Tampa at the top of the league standings last year. Are three of the Devils, Sens, Bruins, Penguins, Islanders definitely better than this team? I don't think so.

I agree, I just wanted a large shakeup and don't think we will get it.

If they give Keumper 6 yrs at 5 to 6 million even, I think it's fine because of what you say in years 4-6. Caps will suck and it won't matter. I hope they front load it, kinda like LeTang so that in the last 2 or 3 years it will be tradeable (Cap hit 6 mil but real money only 3ish?). Not loving the bottom pair D but think we might survive and if they can be in good position to make the playoffs again, they can enhance that with a good trade deadline acquisition.

Yeah. That might be coming next year though with all of the forwards and D men up. Next year they could really reshape those groups.

Yea as they are (correctly imo) giving Backstrom a ton of leeway about wanting to come back this is the most I think they can do. Still holding out some outside hope for a Miller trade though. At least we will finally get to see the kids play!

Wow wasn't expecting that. I guess they thought he was going to get 3m+ in arbitration? Don't think it changes too much besides signing a Greiss/Jones type or trading for Kakhonen/Hill as a backup
