Hurry Up Offseason

Created by: JBrger18
Team: 2022-23 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 28, 2022

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Tried to construct a forward group where everyone has the capacity to move up and down the lineup. A hard forechecker is located on every line. If Paul signs for close to what I have suggested (which is most likely not accurate, my apologies in advance), I think he can play up and down the lineup all day. I don't see him as a 4th liner, but he would definitely provide that energy the fourth line that they desperately need. In regards to the D-Core I have brought Kulak back and moved in Broberg and Niemo. I know it is going to be viewed widely as a bad decision to bring in two more rookies (3 young guys total). But I think they are both ready. Niemo can be playing 10 minutes a night and play against harder forechecking teams. He has good feet and obviously a great checking style the D has lacked over the years. For goaltending they need to bring in a solid guy.. I know Husso has a small resume, but he could turn out well. I was going to suggest running Holtby and Skinner, but I don't know how to feel about Holtby... I know he could take on a full workload as he has in the past, has a ton of playoff experience and could be a great mentor on a cheap contract for like two years. Also I know Sens fans are going to hate the deal I made, however I think everyone is too high on Brown's value in regards to trades. This is an offseason deal and I know he would be worth more at trade deadline, but that is trade deadline.

Seattle is not trading a pick for Tyson Barrie . . . none from this year's draft, anyway. I don't think Barrie would be of 2nd Round pick value to Seattle, either. (Curious what his value would be across the league knowing "what" he is and "what" Edmonton is up against.)

Anyhow, I'd wager that draft picks are more important to the Kraken franchise than any other in the league, currently. Plus, UFA period comes AFTER the draft. Kraken will take a stab at Klingberg, perhaps others, before even considering a trade for Tyson Barrie.

I appreciate your kind and thorough response. I can see where you are coming from with the priority in picks and I can completely agree. I think Barrie could warrant a 2nd round pick elsewhere like PIT if Letang doesn't sign back. The only reason I picked a second from this years draft was that the draft class doesn't seem as deep compared to next years, so I was valuing it less than the 2023 pick. Although if EDM can't sign back Kulak for like $2.5M I would like to see them looking for a Barrie for Soucy trade or something.

Yeah, I think I read Edmonton tried to deal for Soucy at the deadline, but correct me if I'm wrong. (?) Ending up with Kulak worked out well for them, though. He played great. (kind of wish Seattle had selected him from MTL in expansion rather than C. Fleury!)

Anyway, not sure with Soucy. Team loves him and he was definitely one of the bright spots for Seattle in it's inaugural season. Of course he's UFA next summer so if there's no extension Francis has to move him by deadline at least. That's the hiccup . . . Francis CAN be patient. Edmonton will likely want to move Barrie this summer and Soucy is potentially a very decent trade chip for teams adding D at the deadline (saw some ridiculous returns this season!) Honestly, I am not the biggest fan of Barrie or the idea of adding him @ all. I'd be disappointed if Soucy was moved for Barrie!

Can I just say how much I appreciate you two. I'm sick of seeing trades and comments are like " this is dumb" "X team would never do this" and that's it. It's nice to see not everyone is grumpy on this site.

OTT declines,

No need or room on the roster for KAssain when they still have Watson under contract and also their rookie Kelley.
The First is going to be a late pick that doesn't carry enough value to make this deal worth it for the Sens. They would do better with other trades or keeping brown even as a 3rd liner and PK.
