To be honest, the Kings can really only afford to sign Pearson, Toffoli, and a few low contracts like LaDue, Gravel, Brodzinski, etc. Assuming Matt Greene retires and Vegas takes McNabb, the Kings are either going to have to sign a shut down defensive defenseman in free agency or rely on Kevin Gravel to play more defensively. As much as I want to just throw away money to free agents and try to make a dream team, I'm trying to keep this realistic and based on past history, the Kings usually don't make a big splash in free agency. But, Rob Blake could be a big spender you never know. With that said, I think that maybe a tier 2 free agent could be signed but some cap would need to be cleared for that. Now, about the Brown and Gaborik situation. Let's face it, unless another team's GM gets high before talking to Rob Blake, there's really no way we can get rid of them. So why not try to rejuvenate them? Gaborik has a proven scoring touch and putting him along side a crafty winger in Kempe and have Kopitar be the great playmaker he is can possibly revive him. How about putting Brown on a strict enforcing line? The 4th line bullies, wear down other teams with physicality and nastiness. I'd love to see a line just pound down the other team. I don't know if Nashville takes the Nolan trade, to me Nolan is worth nothing so I can't really tell if he is worth more or less. Some people might ask why I opted not to sign a backup goalie, I think that the Kings can bring up Jack Campbell and he is capable of being a backup in the NHL now. But I cannot, actually will not, stand another game with Zatkoff in net.
