Working around NMCs with Robo Max Extension

Created by: Stars77
Team: 2022-23 Dallas Stars
Initial Creation Date: May 19, 2022

Description
Giving Robo a max extension now will help us in the future. A lot of moves would need to be made, something I haven't seen from this organization, but Kadri or Burakovsky could become signable. Hopefully Johnston and Stankoven see playing time in 2022 and take more of a role in 2023.

I'd rather pull a Tkachuk with Robo (3x7). Simply because since Benn also has 3 years it'd give us huge amount of leeway to work it when that contract expires.

I don't think Robertson deserves a contract higher than Heiskanen has even if we signed him long-term, despite how good he was last year.

Tkachuk never scored no 40 goals in a season before he signed that contract either. Dallas is crazy to not lock Robertson up for 8 yrs now. 8x8.
They should probably give Oettinger more term as well. Friedman said on 32T that he sees Dallas signing them both for as many yrs as possible.

From the Stars perspective it makes much more sense to sign him to a 3-year deal. It essentially guarantees 11 more years of contract control on Robertson, by making him an RFA when the 3-year deal expires. Sure, an 8-year isn't the worst thing in the world for the Stars this offseason, but the absolute best option is a 3-4 year deal, allowing Dallas to then sign him to his 8-year contract after it expires.

Same goes for Oettinger. Sign him until he's 25-26 years old & then maximize his contract.

If you're shelling out that kind of money for Kadri, I'd rather just spend it on Burakovsky. Stars have a ton of depth down the center of their lineup. They don't have a ton of organizational depth on the wings.

I like Burakovsky also, I just went with someone different than my previous post. I agree, more wing depth is needed.

I did that in a previous post, giving Robo 3 years. 8 years is a thought for him though because in 3 years contract amounts could be much higher especially if he keeps up his production. With 8 years, he's 30 when his big contract is up. Not saying he will regress in his mid-30's, but that's what we have currently with Benn and Seguin.
