Kent Hughes off-season moves

Description
Can everyone stop trading the sun and moon for Dubois in these mock GM's LOL. This is a rebuild let's be real here. IMO this organization has one of the better defensive prospect pools and they should let them play. Guhle, Harris, Barron are all ready to get some games in, do they stay all season, maybe not but the Habs should refrain from signing any more D.

Dallas trade - Petry wants out and it was rumoured it was gonna be Dallas or Detroit. I don't see an aging D fitting in Detroit. Dallas most likely loses Klingberg so Petry as a replacement on RD is something. They will probably be more desperate plus Petry STILL has value people... I feel the return is fair

Arizona - Drouin was linked to Arizona earlier so dumping his contract and Armia contract to help Arizona spend to the cap floor is reasonable. The return is decent but for who is walking and their $$ it makes sense.

Edmonton - They need a goalie. Point finale. Allen CAN be a starter as we have seen and Edmonton has a better D core than the Habs so he will thrive. A starter of Allens skill level mixed with the desperation of Edmonton can fetch a second for Les Canadiens.

Buffalo - Hoffman has been brutal and needs to go. I truly believe he is so unreliable and bad defensively that less goals will go in once he's gone. Buffalo can be a fit because they need a sniper and they have the cap so why not.

These Petry to Dallas moves need to stop.

The specific reason why DAL isn't re-signing Klingberg is money, so why do they suddenly have money for an aging D-man? Petry at full contract is only a million cheaper than what Klingberg likely ends up being.

If there is any sense behind Stars front office they take Petry only in a cap dump exchange, which basically means Faksa+Khudobin for Petry. And I'm personally against that too.

Sabres pass
Zero interest in Hoffman
And of u think you’re getting a 2nd for Allen, then i think you’re nuts, lol
In the past 5years, he’s had 1 good season sandwiched between 4 mediocre (at best) ones

Maybe for a 4th if we can’t find someone better….
Maybe

Habs fans tried that nonsense to Buffalo as well
They mistakenly think Petry is in demand

I think 2nd for Allen is ok, but only if it's half retained.

The UFA goalie market is crap and Allen is a decent goalie, statistically above the average.

He probably is if his performance keeps on returning to the level it was in next year. But the target is wrong.

Sabres PASS
It would be a last resort type move,
and NOT a guy we’d actually target

And there are better UFA options

Best defensive prospect pools is a stretch… I see a lot of B level defensemen prospect without anyone with star potential

Armia and drouin are cap dumps, you need to pay Arizona to take them, not the other way around

He DOES have 18 pts in his last 24 games... so I think there is merit to saying he's found his form again. He's been a 40+ pts/season defender consistently for a few years. Players going through personal crisis can have a down year and rebound. I would bet on him having 40+ pts next year and being a plus player wherever he plays next year (as long as it's not in Canada).

I understand your opinion that you do not want Buffalo or Dallas to want Petry and you feel very emotional about it.

I'm simply saying that he has 0.75 pts/game in his last 24 which is a pace that projects very nicely over 82 games and that there will probably be a number of GMs who will look at that in the offseason and manifest a desire to take a chance that the Petry we saw in the first half of this season was not the real Jeff Petry, but a person going through a personal crisis brought on by the pandemic and the stress it introduced into his family.

I want him to stay in Montreal based on his play, but unfortunately that's not in the cards. Whatever your hangups about the guy are, he's a fantastic hockey player and will make whatever team gets him better.

Just ignore love and shibbal, they never listen to anyone other them selves.
Petry would be a very good option for Buffalo, I just do not know what is the correct price.
While Tufte is not an "A" prospect but a past first (25th OA) and 2 seconds seems to be a lot.
But if I thought he could return to his 40pt/season production, I would do 2 seconds from 2023 among the Sabres 3 selections.
If 39 yo LHD Giordano and Blackwell can return 2 seconds and a third, I would think Petry could as well, just not this years second.

It's a tough situation when emotional considerations are shown to affect a player's production. It's totally understandable that teams are hesitant. I do not know who will get him, but unlike a lot of fans I don't have a bias against players of a certain age. Some teams will overlook Petry but at the end of next season one lucky GM who got him cheap will look like a mastermind.

I have followed the Petry saga closer than most Sabre fans.
He certainly had a rough start having only two assists until Jan 12th.
Since then in his last 35 games he has 4 goals and 18 assists and 8 assists in his last 9 games.
I was not aware of his demons that affected his play, but he seems to be dealing with them now.
IMO too many Sabre ACGM's only casually watch the Sabres play and never watch another games not involving the Sabres.
When they do watch the Sabres, they only observe what the Sabres do, and not the other teams.
This has been a difficult season to be a Habs fan, injuries, players lost to free agency, players underperforming and really bad moves by Bergevin.
Hughes has been magnificent, he has received far more value than I ever expected in ALL of his trades.
IMO Hughes will hold out for maximum value and a team that just missed the playoffs, lacking an offensive RHD will pay Kent's price.
If Ben Chiarot can return a first, fourth and a decent prospect, I predict Petry will receive the same if not more, if Kent offers 50% retention.

His wife did not like the culture, the language, and the continued restrictions regarding Covid in Montreal and she took the kids and left early in the season. A few weeks later Petry asked for a trade, but it's really hard to trade a contract like his mid-season and he obviously had other things than hockey on his mind. Martin St-Louis has been a blessing for this team as he got these guys to stop putting so much pressure on themselves and remember that they love playing hockey. Petry, Suzuki, Caufield, Romanov, Dvorak, Rem Pitlick (and others) have all come alive and started putting up points that project very nicely over a full season.

Edmonton already has 2 goalies under contract for next season. They aren't trading for Allen even with 50% retained.

Sure if you're willing to trust the 40-year old streaky Smith, all I can say is more power to you.

It's not up to me. I think Holland is. He trusted him this year and it seems he was right and everyone else was wrong. Smith, when healthy, is a top goalie. The trouble is, he wasn't healthy a lot this season.

And Skinner will be growing into the job.
