Way Too Early 19/20 Season Roster Projection?

Created by: NateElder12
Team: 2018-19 Philadelphia Flyers
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 7, 2017
Published: Apr. 7, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Tried to put a roster together assuming we build internally. Also, didn't account for trades of prospects or current players so depending on who is moved in the mean time the lines could be completely different. All contracts have one less year remaining then shown except the renewed contracts - they actually depict remaining years left once the 19/20 season begins. FYI I didn't bothering signing depth players because there are already too many unknowns in this exercise.

Other Factors:
- Unknown Salary cap for 19/20 season
- LTIR used messed with cap hit, but this team w/o bench players has roughly $2M in cap space to sign one depth player. Also, LTIR players are only used to show expired contracts - if players were retained the new deals are shown in the signing box.
- Goalies are a toss up, but this is the current most likely situation
- Myers, Morin, Sanheim are signed to bridge deals until Gudas/AMac come off the books.
- I signed Simmonds in this instance, but it is a real possibility that he could be traded before his contract expires if this team continues to miss the playoffs.

Notable Trade Assets:
- Hagg (D)
- Sandstrom (G)
- Lyon (G)
- Leier (LW)
- Cousins (C/LW)
- Laughton (C/LW)
- Vecchione (C)
- Weal (C/LW)

Think you could sign Stolarz for less and spend the delta in another way? RFA, 6 games played. Nothing against the talent at all! Just curious.
Also, another out of the box idea might be to retain half of McDonald's salary in a trade. Still a net gain cap wise to PHI and the same # of years.

well I'm assuming stolarz signs a two year extension this year. Then this contract is actually his follow on contract so he won't just have 6 GP at that time so $3.5M seems about right - similar to Vas (TBL) and Murray (PIT). Also, I thought about it on AMac but what's the point when we don't need the cap space. If a better offer presented itself then yeah i'd consider it but giving up assets when you don't absolutely need the cap space seems like a waste. Remember what year this is and not actually the 17/18 or 18/19 season. It's supposed to be 19/20 and AMac has only one year remaining on his deal

Weal doesn't work out for you then? I'd probably think that Weal and Vecchione in the lineup still over Dove-McFalls and Aube-Kubel but who knows!

I would say that Hart would take over as the number one goalie over Stolarz. He is an elite prospect and is a pure baller in the CHL

I think base on time frames both Weal and Vec would still be in the Flyers lineups rather than Dove and AK, I think AK is much closer to a 4th line spot than Dove.

I think at this point we'd like to believe that based on his play but I think he'll need a FULL AHL season under his belt to get used to the pace. Also, Stolarz has improved EVERY year and that is a trend you want to see in a young keeper. I think Hart in this lineup makes sense based on the progression history of the players.

Would love to have Hart be the next Bobvrovsky.... but it's still such an unknown.

no idea. I think Weal works out, but not sure if he is retained long-term. Dove-McFalls has a really good shot to be on the Flyers someday and from what I've seen is a better replacement for PEBs than people give him credit for. AK seems to be a decent 4th liner as well. I think there is just as much uncertainty with Vecchione as there is with the young guys still in the system so who knows. Like I said this is early projection, and if those two players (Weal/Vecchione) preform extremely well the Flyers probably won't have the cap space to retain them over the defensemen we have - if they pan out unless we moved Jake/Giroux which like I said I took I more conservative approach in building this.
