Description
I would like to see them trade for a defenseman but I think they will wait till cam fowler is a free agent and try to sign him then, and I think they will run with 8 dmen and rotate the young kids on d, I only see them moving green helm and howard, I could be wrong, but that is what I see happening.

Highly doubt Holland leaves Helm unprotected, and for good reason. This team needs to rid itself of one of Abdelkader, Glendening, Dekeyser or Howard. Let's hope that happens.

I totally agree about Helm Holland kids played with his finance when the were small, Just can't see Holland leaving him unprotected when he pretty much did every thing in his power to bring him back to Detroit.

Holland has pretty much said that he wont deal Green, Unless we get a similar young D man in return think Barrie or Vatanen. And Green at $3 million for 1 year should net us a 1st and a good D prospect i would imagine.

Green isn't young, there's your first problem. I doubt Holland is intelligent enough to realize he can trade Green, and still obtain Vatanen or Barrie via another trade. Lastly, who is giving up that kind of package for Green, regardless of retained salary, when he has one year left on his deal? Not happening.

Green is 31 years old still a lot of hockey left in him, Injuries are a major concern i give you that much. With retained salary no reason not to believe that Holland can't get for Green what Arizona got for Yandle while i agree that Yandle was much younger then Green is i still feel that we can get something decent for Green only time will tell. I don't see Holland moving Green until next year if we're out of the playoffs.

Those are incomparable scenarios. The Yotes were dealing with a very aggressive, almost desperate GM in New York that gave all of that up for Yandle, because he thought they were inches from a cup. You cannot compare the situations just because they are similarly aged, offensively minded Dmen.

Here's the thing: I see very little chance in the Wings re-signing Green after next year. So, either Holland does what he does best (nothing), and loses Green to UFA, or he trades him for a decent return at the deadline to a contender (EDM, SJ, CAL, etc) or he trades him at the draft as part of a nice package for a centerman (RNH?) or Dman (Fowler, Vatanen, Barrie?). I know which one I think I will happen...

Green will only bring a good package back from a team that is going to be a Stanley cup contender, that is partially why I chose San Jose, you bring him in on the second pairing and your second power play unit, I don't see a first that is why I went with 2 second round picks as far as a prospect it could be any defensive prospect they are willing to give up, and green will finish in the top 30 scoring defensemen in the league on a bad red wings team this season.
