Heading in a good direction but the Flyers don't need any goalie prospects and de la rose is meh at best. Juulson, Hudon and a 1st maybe ( since your 1st will be late)

Hmm i think we're on to something here. I'm pretty sure the 1st rounder is out of the question for MTL but Juulsen and Hudon seem plausible. Maybe someone with a bit of salary to help with the 5m+ we're taking on without giving any back? Maybe like a Brandon Davidson?

Flyers don't really have a use for a 7th or 8th D man. We should have 2-3 prospects ready for the show next year. You are going to have to dump Plekanec on someone.

Yeah easier said then done.....

Davidson wouldn't be added because you really want him...its to help out our cap since we're not giving you anything of big cap going back. Not many teams can take on a 5m+ contract without giving a little back. He can be sent to the minors if anything.

The goal of the trade was to give you something you wanted while not giving you a huge chunk of salary back either. I'm not doing that for nothing. If we're going to add a 1st and or better prospects like Hudon etc, we'll need to give back salary like a Plekanec or an Emelin, etc.

Habs are taking 5 years of 5M+ contract off your hands and in the hockey world that is a big talking point in a trade.

I think any trade for Schenn HAS to include a 1st round pick for sure as he produces like a 1st line player.

Fucale isn't appealing since we have quite a good crop of G now - and I'm not sure Fucale would be the best if he were to come over. He certainly doesn't tear up the AHL at all, struggled.... ECHL this year....

You'd need a piece that can step in and play right away.

I'll say something like:
Lehkonen/Scherbak + Byron + 1st

All that being said, I am not sure we make good trade partners. Altho I'd love for Byron and Giroux to play with one another again.

IT would be if that player WAS a cap dump, Schenn isn't that... moot point.

What would you think about Scherbak + 1 st + Plec ($2 maybe even $3 million retained)?

In line with Hexy, he won't take on Plek. We Do not want that contract and his age even with retention.

This is why the Habs are not good trading partners. They need cap space to take on a player but we don't want anyone they have outside of Gallagher, Patches or Galchenyuk on the current roster.

That's interesting. I feel like Scherbak, Byron, and a 1st is an easy deal for Montreal to make. Lehkonen would be a little more difficult, but that doesn't quash the trade.
Schenn is a legitimate top 6 winger, whereas Byron is more of a middle 6 having a breakout year. Sustaining production at his current level is a question mark (perhaps it just took him a while to figure out how to effectively apply his skill/speed, and his current production will become the norm). Byron is also versatile and plays both sides of the puck well, so is that enough value to Philly to give up on a more established, productive winger?

No. I think Ding's proposal is too light.

Then why are Philly fans trading him? Is he really going to get the same return as a Duchene? Not even close. So maybe the 1st rounder is necessary from your point of view which is fine but then teams shouldn't have to be taking on all that salary without giving some back. So you want 1st round pick, a solid prospect and something else for a guy that you guys are actively trading because he doesn't fit the bill anymore. Look at the cap space every team has right now for example. Only a few teams can take on a Schenns contract and those teams are either not in the market or purposefully not spending up to the cap because of their internal cap limit.

Everyone thinks " oh we'll just deal with Carolina since they have cap space". Problem is teams that have tons of cap space like them do so at their owners request, not because they are frugal. Judging by how hard it is to make trades in the NHL, I think its becoming obvious that cap space is an equal trading asset almost to the point of player return.

Regarding Schenn, its a cache 22. You want the return to be high and you don't want to take on salary. So the demands are high from the start and its Philly fans who are actively trading him. Makes anyone wonder if he's so good then why isn't he playing 18 mins a night on Giroux's left side. Why is he even being mentioned in a trade? Why not simply keep him? Because he's a bargaining chip with value? Yup, so is taking on 5M of salary for the next 5 years while handing out draft picks and good prospects.

Also can everyone please stop using the wording of cap dump for a trade that involves salary going one way and not the other. There's a parenthesis with that reasoning. When a player of value is traded for no major salary coming back, its not a cap dump. Its a trade. It just happens that one team is taking on salary and one isn't. Cap dump is when a player of no value or very little value is traded with an incentive for virtually nothing in return like a 7th round pick or future considerations, etc.

Bryan Bickell to Carolina was a cap dump. Dave Bolland to Arizona was a cap dump. Pavel Datsyuk to Arizona was a cap dump. These teams took on significant cap hits of players with very little value in order to receive an incentive such as high picks and or prospects.

Also Byron, Scherbak/Lehkonen + 1st is a no from Montreal. Easily. Byron even if not as good of a player is producing almost the same as Schenn, Lehkonen is a rookie with 12 goals on the season. Plus a 1st rounder?

I agree with the sentiment that Philly and MTL are not good trading partners though. We aren't. I just wanted to float and idea out there and start a thread and hopefully come to somewhat fair value for Schenn. I think I've got what that is now.

Something along the lines of:

Montreal Canadiens
Brayden Schenn

Philadelphia Flyers
Nikita Scherback
Nathan Beaulieu
Tomas Plekanec
1st round pick in 2017
