Since the Canes don't resign KK and Montreal still need a middle 6 center. Montreal offers KK 3 Mil x 3 years, KK accepts and everyone is happy again lol. (Wishful thinking I know, I just like the kid lol)

With what leverage? He’s a locker room cancer who has a 1 mil qualifying offer. He’s not got room to ask for loads because he knows he could be out of the league

You sound like a cnn/cbc watcher. I coached a player that now plays with canes and this “cancer” you speak of was a very isolated issue and he is extremely well received by the players and coaches. I’m told he’s been amazing.

Keep this post in your memory bank and watch the amount he gets. I also spoke with his agent as I was an agent for 4 years before deciding to go back to scouting.

It’s not an isolated incident though. He’s done it in junior, New York, Arizona… this dude can’t stay in once place because he’s a cancer. He’s got no leverage to demand the money he wants. Look at what Kane will get after his buyout this summer. He’ll have no leverage to demand anything LIKE what he wants because his reputation proceeds his abilities.

In junior? My buddy coached him in sarnia and loved him. They only traded him to the Soo, because they knew they wouldn’t go far in the playoffs and another buddy coached him in the soo and loved him. The Soo really wanted him and they offered a great package for him.

Listen I come on capfriendly to have fun because I still enjoy the game and have friends that coach or former players I coached. People with strong opinions come on here and spew information they got from the media. They rarely have inside and accurate information.

I remember when Ryan O’Reilly wanted out of Buffalo and some guy on capfriendly was calling Ryan a “cancer” in the locker room. Ryan was at my house earlier that day eating his favourite meal that my wife has made for him each time he came over, since 2007. I chuckled when I saw the cancer comment because I knew the individual personally.

I’m not here to puff out my chest or get into arguments with anyone. I’ve been in hockey since 1972 and I simply have a love for the game. If you don’t like Anthony that is fine. All the best and good day!

Simply using the word rebuild illicit’s all kind of reactions out of people. Before going to that word, let’s visit why people are talking about it.

Montreal lost key leadership pieces, Weber (captain) Danault, Perry, price, Byron (assistant captain) , edmundson. So you have #1 goalie, #1 & 3 d-man, shut down centre, pk specialist with speed and the old owl in Perry. That is a lot of leadership and 30% of your roster.

No NHL team loses a 1/3 of their team and doesn’t have bumps the following season. No police force, fire department, nurses, school staff loses 30% and not feel the vacuum, so it’s going to take time.

I told my youngest son that’s 21, before the first game, that Montreal will be terrible until after Christmas, then improve.

Montreal has some nice pieces and I wouldn’t go for a full rebuild. I would definitely move some players for picks and or prospects. Also people fall in love with certain players for various reasons. They must learn to put their emotions aside. Take for example Kulak, people love his skating and fluid puck movement. But he only generates 0.17% on offence. That is extremely terrible. With that percentage he should be a 5 or 6 d-man but usually you want those types to be either a massive bruising dman or a PP specialist should you not have that in your top four. Which is why Montreal signed wideman. So he looks like a top four, skates like a top four but produces like a 3rd pair that doesn’t hit or drop the gloves.

So Kulak is easy to coach against. He won’t hurt you with hits or points but will skate a lot. He looks good but in the end, he won’t hurt you.

I don’t want to make this too long but I would move certain players for sure and surround the new core with the right players.

DeAngelo will get more than $3.5M, if he stays on the straight and narrow. IMHO, there’s no chance he gets more than $5.3M, Slavin $$$. If he wants more than that, he’s not a Cane next year. If he’s amenable to a Tyson Barrie-type deal, it shouldn’t be too hard to keep him around, $4.75M for 2-3yrs sounds just about right to me, give or take.

Bear will likely get around$3-4M. To me, it’s key that if the Canes re-up both Bear and TDA (which I think they will), that the combined aav of both their deals comes in at $8.5M or under.

I feel you could confidently assume that the full value of the Gardiner contract will NOT be on the Canes’ cap next year. Either he retires, stays on LTIR or worst case scenario, is bought out. I suppose also they could dump an asset to trade the last year of the deal to say, ARZ, but I don’t think that’s likely at all with how the Canes’ front office operates.

Personally, I think Trocheck walks as he’ll get much more on the open market than what the Canes will realistically be able to offer. Out of Necas, Kotkaniemi and Trocheck, keeping Necas is a no-brainer and part of the reason they brought in Kotkaniemi was to replace Trocheck, at least from my point of view. Keeping Trocheck around would likely mean they’d not be able to keep both of TDA and Bear. Also, they didn’t spend a 1st in a deep draft just to watch Kotkaniemi walk.

I like Stepan and would have no issues with them re-signing him, but not at $2M.

All that said, I’d say, give Necas the $6.5-7M long term, Kotkaniemi $3-4M, re-up Bear, TDA and Stepan and fill
In the gaps with ELC talent in Drury/Rees/Suzuki/Nikishin, etc.

Teravainen-Aho-Necas
Svechnikov-Kotkaniemi-Jarvis
Rees-Staal-Fast
Martinook-Drury-Stepan

Looks pretty good to me…

Add Poehling and Ylonen up front. Guhle, Harris & Logan Mailloux on back end. I’m not completely sold on Primeau.
