Gardiner and Dermott won't get you trouba. Also the JVR trade doesn't make much sense to be. He needs to be move a deal for a D man that can help now not 4 or 5 years down the road. Why wouldn't you resign Zaitsev?

Gardiner is an established top 4 defenceman and adding in one of our best defensive prospects to boot, all for just another top 4 defenceman who did not even want to sign with a Canadian team in the first place. No point in giving away two defence for one when we are trying to add defence. Highly doubt Leafs management would even consider this.
