StL Isles

Created by: BAC
Team: 2021-22 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 19, 2021
Published: Aug. 20, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
-Tank & Thomas for Bellows & Bailey isn't going to be liked, but it's a realistic and fair return.
-Bellows & Thomas are a wash in talent, & Bailey offers experience, leadership & consistency.
-Sanford and Staal are a wash salary-wise, & reallocates value from LW to D.
-Staal adds size, toughness & experience.
-Lindgren and Mantha are depth RD signings--one with speed & skill, & one with size & upside.
-Morin is a giant late bloomer utility player, finally healthy, who can play LW or LD.
-Perunovich is excessive expensive depth at this point, he can't get the NHL ice he needs in STL.
-Neighbors gets a shot, at least until Sundqvist returns, & he'll fit right in.
-Kostin will make a big impact, early & often, & may play himself into bigger roles.
-These moves re-stock and balance roster depth, leaves salary cap cushion, improves size & toughness without sacrificing skill.

Detroit trade is not an option. Staal has a NMC for a reason. At this stage in his career, family stability is more important to him than winning.

Also, Detroit doesn't want Sanford.

You may be right, but I'm betting that Staal would be willing to waive to come to STL for a bigger role on another contending team. As for family, I don't understand why, but one consistent selling point for the Blues is that players say their families love it there, and they love retiring from there. Perhaps that wouldn't appeal to Staal, but stranger things have happened.

Detroit might not be interested, but I doubt they would get better value for Staal than a young power forward with soft hands and a third. I think it's fair to say that Staal may hold more value for them right now than the proposed return, but that's a timing issue. He's a UFA-to-be. I think they would have to consider.

The cost of living is the Detroit Metro Area is about 50% less than NY. I wonder how much of a factor that was in him moving to Detroit.

I beg to differ. I think Clifford would be attractive in that he's a seasoned enforcer, and with the other Metro teams stocking up on goons, they'll need the muscle. Morin has size, but he's not proven himself as a fighter. Perunovich is a highly regarded young defenseman--one of the Blues' best prospects--who is simply a victim of numbers. I think they would jump on this offer. The only upside to the Blues is having more roster flexibility with a big body utility player, and a wee bit of cap space. It's not an upgrade in skill or toughness, for sure.

Probably don't get better value anywhere that's true. I could see a move at the deadline being a possibility.

That's not throwing away Thomas. Bellows is a comparable talent, and a better fit for StL in my opinion.
Bailey is highly underrated, is a good return for Tarasenko, all things considered, and would also be a better fit in StL.

I will agree, that is a lousy return for Perunovich. Another pick coming to StL would help balance that out. But as to why, it's pretty self-explanatory: barring multiple season-ending injuries ahead of him on the depth chart, there is literally nowhere else for him to play. In spite of his talent, his lack of NHL experience hurts his value. He is, in other words, another incarnation of Schmaltz, whom the Blues lost for nothing because he languished in the AHL until his value was nil.

Morin offers better flexibility, both in terms of salary cap space and roster placement. Now that he's healthy, his size will make him an intimidating presence, even if he's not an accomplished fighter.

Philly has no reason to trade Morin for a more expensive enforcer. Perunovich is a nice prospect but Philly alrady has plethora of LD prospects

Fair enough. You would know better than I. The minor cap savings aren't important, and the Blues probably prefer Clifford in that role anyway. Morin will be interesting to follow this year, regardless of where he plays. I feel bad for Perunovich though. He deserves a better shot than what he'll get with the Blues.

This has to be a joke right all of these trade are terrible and make the team worse
Staal isnt any good Pernovich would just play in that spot
Pernovich greater than Morin
And why are we adding thomas to the isle trade thats ****ing stupid any way you put it
If we are giving thomas up to the isles it has to be a package for one of Barzal or Pelech or a 1 for 1 for dobson other that that he is worth more then anybody on that team

I'm not surprised those ideas aren't wildly popular. But if you don't think Bellows is at least comparable to Thomas, you clearly know little about either of them.

Bellows has been in the ahl for ever now and has barely played in the nhl why would we give up the much much better player they may play the same style of game but quality wise Thomas is so far ahead

You're delusional. Pelech?? Barzal??????? Dobson?????? Is it a good trade for the blues? Absolutely not. But what you're proposing is even worse in terms of value.

No i didnt. But keep being wrong thats fine you look like a ****. I said id only trade him to the isles IN A PACKAGE for Barzal, Pelech, or dobson. I said he maybe be able to go 1 for 1 for dobson but i still think he would have to be involved in a package. Please use your brain, however small it is before you comment next time.
