Bye Trouba

Created by: HOCKEYBOY448

Initial Creation Date: Aug. 3, 2021
Published: Aug. 3, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Contract is crap. He won’t waive so buy him out to make room. Kreider is gone in 2 years. Assumes Mika doesn’t take a discount deal and wants $9-10 mil, sign Malkin or someone else in free agency. Chytil takes over top 6 after Malkin retires. Then we roll Chytil, Dvorak, Barron and Goodrow down the middle (hoping Korczak turns into something special in 2-3 years like Brayden Point). Might have a bonus penalty following year, depends on who hits their performance bonuses or not. I still think it’d be a decent team though, should hopefully get to the playoffs as other teams start to fall.

If you read the description this is made under the assumption that Mika wants $9-10 mil for 8 years which is too much imo. I’m a big fan of Dvorak. There’s no chance we can pay Mika that till he’s 37-38 years old.

Instead of buying Trouba out and having dead cap for the next 10 years, just flip him to Detroit with retention and only have dead cap for 5 years. As a Detroit fan, I'd be willing to take him on for 2.5m-3m retained and take a chance on him.

This is under the assumption he won’t waive for anyone cause of his fiancé, thus leaving us no choice but to buy him out as the cap stays flat and we’ve got guys to sign. Unless the plan is to trade all our young guys and sign guys to league min only in order to keep him.

I'd be really surprised if he wasn't willing to waive to come home...

Per everyone on this site they complain and whine when he’s traded cause if his fiancé wanting to be in NY. Hence I gave him no chance in the matter and bought his ass out. Isles don’t have cap for him. He’s not a fit for the devils. Let’s see how NY works for him then when he can’t play for any of the teams in the area.

I mean... if you guys bought him out, he'd be sitting pretty financially and could then just sign for league minimum in NJ or with the Isles, so, that'd really be cutting off your nose in spite of your face... at that point, you'd be better off keeping him... but I'm sure his fiance would figure it out and I'm sure his agent is just playing hard ball, so he can control where he goes...

People...Do not feed the troll.

How is it trolling? If they kept Trouba and didn’t trade for Dvorak were left with Mika, Chytil and then want Barron and Goodrow down the middle. The cap is doing us no favors right now. If anything we need to hold out hope Fox takes a discount on his next contract.

That’d be his prerogative then. I wouldn’t care at that point. That’s one dude I wish they never signed or at least not for more than $6 mil.

Isn’t it so weird though. It’s like they both regressed without each other.

Maybe a reunion to another team would do wonders for them both and they find their game again. Arizona could use help. Too bad the odds of that happening are just in NHL 21.

Morrissey seems to play reasonably well when he has a good partner, but he's probably better suited for the 2nd pair with a good partner. He's not a true #1 (or #2 for that matter).

I just never thought away from each other the drop in play would be so dramatic though. I honestly find it strange.

Buying out Trouba is an even dumber idea that the ridicules Eichel trades on here every day. Congrats on that.

No one is taking him at $8 mil for 3 more years and we need cap space and this assumes he refuses to waive his NMC, thus buyout for cap room.

First off, his contract has 5 more years on it, so a buy out would run for TEN years. You want to free up some cap space now by ADDING TEN YEARS of dead cap space, in the millions each year, for a right hand defenseman that is still young, plays physical, and is a leader? That is moronic. Is he worth $8 million a year? NO. But he is still a good second pair defenseman behind Fox and a leader. Any GM that would buy him out would be fired that day.

Go look at the team that’s built and see who you’re trading or not signing to make $8 mil for him then. Say bye to both top two centers. That means you’ve got $4 mil to fill the top two centers. Good luck.

Currently $1.7 in cap space. Add Trouba’s $8 mil back means negative $6.3 mil which means no Malkin who is $6.5 here. Dvorak at $4.45 is too expensive as the money would need to be split to fill 2 center spots. So $4.65 mil left for the top 6 centers.

There is no currently in your post.....you are estimating contracts a year after NEXT season, and you have no idea how things will shake out by then. You let Mika walk I guess and sign Malkin? LOL. You have no way of knowing if Kravstov or Kakko will be traded by then either. There are way to many variables between now and then to think they have a cap issue. And if by that time they do have a cap issue, it's far more likely Kreider is traded or bought out than Trouba. Right handed D are not easy to come by, but they have wingers coming out of their u know what. Plus Trouba is younger. In any case, buying out Trouba and creating 10 years of dead cap space is an incredibly BAD idea.
