Edmonton immediately hangs up on that offer, its not even negotiable. Green nor Vanek are that valuable, Det is lucky to get picks for them

If the Ducks are moving a d-man (A big IF), it's not going to be Theodore. He doesn't need to be protected in the expansion draft. They get Tatar, and that's just one more person they need to worry about losing. Plus, a draft pick? No thanks.

Does Jurco only get you a 5th?

Not a bad deal with Carolina, they take on Nyquist's contract and get a prospect in return for a better prospect.

The Brendan Smith one makes me laugh, only because last night he was essentially the centerpiece in a deal to get the Wings Cam Fowler. It was funny. Not a bad idea to get whatever you can for him.

The Edmonton deal is messy. I know Chiarelli has a history of being a moron, but are you really giving up on a 23 year old (Former first overall pick) center, plus throwing in TWO first round pick for an offensive d-man and 2 months of Vanek? Yikes. Probably not...

Tatar would not have to be protected as long as they do not resign him before the season is over because he will be a restricted free agent, at least I think that is how the rules would go and it would probably take and added pick or prospect to that deal, but I am not completely sure, as for the Edmonton deal it would probably work if I took out RNH, because of taking the 2 older players that are not playing for them, As for jurco that was a spit ball guess he has potential if placed in the right situation, as for Brendan smith miller and ott it is to get what ever we can get for them

Also from a Ducks POV, we also can't move Theodore for Tatar because of cap space.

That's not how it works. LV can still draft the rights of players, even if a contract is not in place. Otherwise, what are TB worried about? Neither one of Palat, Johnson or Drouin need to be protected because they're all pending RFAs. Lol... yeah, Yzerman wishes that were the case. It's not.

Yes I see what you mean, what I was actually thinking is only for unrestricted free agents for a team.

I'll comment simply on the Edm deal.

I'm not entirely sure this is as bad as they think.

What has been the prices of taking on bad contracts? Bickell, Bolland etc. It takes quiet a bit.

Vanek alone is worth, if he keeps up the pace, a 2nd rounder.

Green is a capable top 2/4 pairing dman. If you don't think he's worth a 1st rounder, you don't understand hockey. I could show you a list of dmen who were traded for by overpaying way more then they were worth technically. Couple that with the fact that he's a RH shot dman.......Puh-leez! I'm not a Green fan or a Detroit fan but I know decent players when I see them and Green is major upgrade over who Edm has right now on the right side. That's including Larsson BTW.

I don't know too much of Renouf but I assume he is a B prospect because of just that, I don't much about him and I'm a avid fan who knows just about every "noteworthy" prospect. Saarijarvi on the other hand I do know and is a very decent Dman prospect. He would be one of the better D prospects in EDM.

From the EDM perspective, Fayne is weighing down their AHL club, Ference has essentially taken the year off. I'm not even sure he is actually injured and the two first rounders are for the most part going to not be lottery picks and since EDM is pretty decent now, i think they'll be 20-30 in both years.

They get rid of 2 bad contracts and get two prospects and two NHL'er top 6 and top 4 players.........

To be honest, I'm not sure Detroit should do this. They could get slightly more if sold separately........
