Leafs wouldn't do this. That's paying way too much

Kinda of an exaggeration to call Tanev "a rock". So three full years of Tanev for six years of Nylander and I believe four years of Carrick. Virtanen likely couldn't make the Leafs next year. There will be much better out there this summer. It's not like the Leafs are desperate to make the playoffs this year, and to think Tanev is gonna that much difference.

I think people forget Shattenkirk and Tanev are born in the same year... not comparing them both on the leafs or discussing the trade, but It seems people always refer to Tanev as a good young D, and Shattenkirk as soon to hit his peak... AGAIN i know Shattenkirk will make way more next year (not diving into that) It just seems people's opinion of the 2 are always very different

My point is people stray from Shattenkirk bc he doesnt fit the "timeline" but you never hear that about Tanev. If anything, "Offensive D" last longer than "Shutdown D." Puck skills and hockey instincts don't disappear overnight... Foot-speed and physicality can and have

Jim: Not really related to what you said but. Why do 50% if the Tanev trades posted have him coming to the Leafs? You would think a contender would have more interest and benefit than the Leafs. Guess many folks don't realize there are 30 teams on the NHL. Same with Shattenkirk, why do 33% of the trades.UFA signing have him coming to the Leafs?

Totally unrelated i know, just had to get it off my chest...But to answer your question...

1) Leafs are the most glaring obvious team that needs a stud D to become elite/contender
2) majority of posters are leaf fans

Unless you're getting back a player like Hampus Lindholm or Jacob Trouba it doesn't make sense to me to trade Nylander.

Tanev for JVR and Carrick? I make that trade.

Nylander should be a Leaf for at least a decade unless we get what I mentioned above.
