There is a reason Toffoli signed in Montreal and it's not that he didn't like Vancouver. After the signing the habs shared a photo of Toffoli in a Habs jersey at about 11 years old, apparently it has been a dream of his since childhood to play for the Habs. See link

Toffoli would have signed in Vancouver, he indicated it was his number one priority. The cap really made it difficult for Vancouver, I truly believe they didn't offer because they couldn't afford it with 2 big signings coming up the following season.

Tampa Bay say no chance don’t give me salary cap finding it elsewhere. You don’t dump salary on a cap friendly deal with your best Rd when that’s your weakest spot completely asinine move if Your JBB

He’s signed 3 years you can’t offer sheet a player under contract

If you can't tell, this is a post about what the Canucks should have done in their offseason. So yes, Cernak is currently under contract but the Canucks, or any other team for that matter, should have presented an offer sheet.

You’re assuming he wants to leave for similar money why? 12% provincial tax 0% State tax in Florida
And Tampa Bay he has a much better chance of winning another Stanley Cup And his Slovakian So it’s not like he’s going home to Vancouver to play make it 4 it’s possible

1) The offer sheet compensation for a second-round pick goes up to about 4.3 M so Cernak's Canucks contract could be in the range of 3-4.3 M.
2) Vancouver is a young up and coming team with franchise pillars. They are exciting and pushed an elite Vegas to Game 7 of the second round.

Cernak could have potentially received a bigger contract and gone to a young competitive team that he would be a core piece in.
