Created by: UserId8
Team: 2020-21 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 11, 2020
Published: Oct. 11, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Tampa can't match both Serg/Cern and keep Cirelli. They match Serg and Vancouver gets Cermak for a 2nd. But then Brian Burke comes off the panel and challenges Benning to a fight on principle. The NHL makes it part of the Winter Classic on Jan 1. ANA does Vancouver a solid and eats 600K after they bury Sven in the minors so Kes can retire a Canuck.

Kesler's contract is of no use to you guys, and Baertschi's buy-out is only $1,766,666 this year.

Honestly, this scenario doesn't look good for the Canucks.

1) The Canucks are losing their first 3 draft picks, forcing them to draft outside of the first 2 rounds of the draft for the second year in a row.
2) The Canucks are going into the season over the cap space by more than $6.5 million.
3) An additional $11 million dollars is being committed to the cap for the next 5 season until 2024-25. Salary cap is not going to go up by much.

I like it, time to spend draft picks is now, draft now isn't ready for 2-4 years and that doesn't help EP/QH.

1. Draft picks are expandable assets that should be used to supplement EP/QH with age relevant NHL players. not wasting waiting for years of development on a draft pick.EP/QH need help now
2. canucks actually have Kesler on LITR giving them $6.5m extra cap.
3. they need roughly $22-25 to sign important players and supplement the roster next off season, this roster has over $22m next off season.

1) Doesn't seem like the Canucks should be going all in this season. Next 2 seasons seems like the more appropriate time to make big moves and make a run for the Cup. Canucks still need more high-end prospects to continue building the team sustainably. If the Canucks are a playoff team, then it would make sense to give up picks to acquire missing pieces.
2) Didn't realize the cap space result didn't already include LTIR.
3) Next season, the Canucks' cap space is less than 24 million, and they'll be 7-10 vacant spots to fill in the roster (2.4 to 3.4 million per vacant spot). EP/QH/TD will all be included in that group of players too.
