O. Palat and T. Enstom

Created by: Fanatical
Team: 2016-17 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 1, 2016
Published: Sep. 1, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
TB - Expansion Draft and Cap Issues
WPG - Player swap and salary dump
VAN - Fills glaring needs

Fame on........!
Trades
1.
VAN
  1. Palat, Ondrej
Additional Details:
TB will likely lose a player next year given there salary structure and given the draft. Hansen is a comparable player to Palat (more grit v. more skilled) with the exception of age. A second round pick is also exchanged and should be sufficient given Hansen is still signed after the end of the season.
TBL
  1. Hansen, Jannik
  2. 2017 2nd round pick (VAN)
2.
VAN
  1. Enström, Toby ($1,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Scenery change for both players with 2 years left each.

Enstrom makes 5.75, WPG retains 1m effectively saving 1.175m in cap space. For a cap conscious team, saving a million should matter.

More importantly, the Jets need defensive defencemen given the plethora of offensive guys (e.g. Trouba and Buff) in there top 4. Sbisa has more grit and toughness then Enstrom and is better defensively. He does not bring any offense but again, that is not why WPG is making this deal.

You get enstrom is a solid top4 dmen and sbisa might not be even NHL caliber. Oh and sbisa is really bad defensively like teams have a field day out shooting and chancing the nucks when he is on the ice.

Maybe you are right but this allows WPG to protect who they need to and Enstrom is in decline.

Enstrom is not a top 4 dman...Sbisa is much better defensively then Enstrom.
Enstrom = 16pts in 72 games last season, 23 pts in 60 games the season before. He is not tough at all and gets worked over all time. He is paid like a top paring dman and is maybe a 5 hole guy. WPG needs to dump has contract and save cash plus needs defense given they finished 22nd last year in GA.

You're Benninging a lot here... Hansen is NOT a comparable player to Palat. Palat is a top six (maybe even top line) forward. Hansen is a bad 3rd liner, and that's being generous.

Oh, and fanatical, you... I don't even know what to say if you haven't realized Sbisa does not belong in the league. Yes, Enstrom is way better than him, even in spite of the contract.

You severely overvalue your players. Enstrom is 10,000x better than Sbisa. He's declined offensively because he's forced into a more defensive role, and well yes he also is losing his offensive abilities, but still he's much better than Sbisa. All of Sbisa's points were easy points and garbage points, and Sbisa is not good defensively. People assume grit for good defensive play, not realizing grit is one of the most overrated aspects in a player. Some of the best defensive players in the league (Keith, Doughty, Hedman, etc.) aren't particularly physical, and some of the worst in the league (Girardi, Sbisa, Strait, Stuart (Both of them), etc.) are extremely physical because they can't do jack s*** in other areas.

Agreed Palat is a better offensive forward then Hansen but here is the thing, Tampa will lose someone. Maybe the find a better deal but Hansen and a 2nd is comparable to what they would likely get back in return. I realize that you do not think Hansen is anything but he is. He does more then Palat does overall and contributes at a top 6 pace. Thats just reality based on statistics and the numbers he has put up the last couple of years. I am not saying that Hansen is a better offensive player then Palat is but he is a top 6 forward, with a low cap hit, that does a lot of things Palat does not.

As for Sbisa, again factor in WPG's situation all things considered. Is Enstrom better then Sbisa, yes. But again, how much does he get paid, is he worth the money, can WPG afford him, what about the expansion draft and the fact he takes up a reserve spot etc. Enstrom is a declining asset plain and simple that is TIED to WPG and impacts there future, like it or not. He will be moved and for far less then you think simply given his albatross contract.

Again, you people all say the same thing and do not look at reality.

You must not see much of the Lightning. Palat would be a potential Selke nominee already if he played C but he plays W and wings don't get nominated for that award. He does everything for the Lightning and is the best two-way forward on the Lightning by a wide margin, he is known for his defensive play in his own end and back checking, he has a good fore check that sets up the Triplets line time and time again. He plays in all situations PP, PK, etc. The Lightning might end up losing one of the young studs but it won't be Palat he will be resigned. If anyone goes its Tyler Johnson because the Lightning have Vlad Namestnikov now and Brayden Point (2-3yrs) waiting in the wings. Hansen is a good player but is not comparable to Palat.

I get where Fanatical is going with these trades in terms of cap savings and not losing good players in expansion for nothing, but neither Tampa or Winnipeg are taking those offers. Sbisa is terrible by both the eye test and all other metrics, so his 3.6 cap hit is just an anchor that won't be dealt. Hansen is actually quite a good two way forward that can play in all situations, but the offer to Tampa would have to be sweeter than just him and a 2nd rounder for Palat.

Not to mention Palat also plays the most defensive zone starts and has he best advanced stats (Well I believe Kucherov has better, but he has a lot more offensive zone starts). People tend to criticize advanced stats, but don't realize that many of the best defensive hockey players have fantastic advanced stats along with great eye test (Hjalmarsson, Vlasic, Doughty, etc.).
