JJ still sucks. he may not cost a first to move now because of a CBO, so theres no point in pens paying the leafs to buy him out. this trade has potential though. I really like the idea of Kap in pit instead of Johnnson because as you said the left wing is already very solid.
Zucker-Crosby-Kap
Jake-Geno-Rust
McCann-kerfoot-Hornqvist
thats a very intriguing top 9.
no matter how you flip it, it's a bad trade for the penguins.
They are already tight against the cap. This asks them to take on 7 million in cap space giving up only 3.25 and on top of it, they lose a league min player in blueger who fills a role.
It's a horrible deal.
They don't need Kerfoot. The only way him coming to the penguins makes any sense is if jugs is already out the door. And in that sense, they wouldn't want to move Blueger to begin with.
It's a 1 sided cap dump trade. Even if you think Kap would be interesting. Truth is, I'm not sold on Kap. He's the 3rd wheel on his line making 3 million+.
He has speed but no real shot. He has no accuracy at all.
While the penguins do need a RW, the cost on this trade isn't worth it.
This is what this trade is.
JJ Simon and a 1st for Johnsson. Lets be real, Johnsson is a cap dump for TOR just like JJ is for PIT. Why are the penguins giving up a 1st here? Even if you make that Kap it's still a bad deal. Kap isn't worth a 1st.
Kerfoot for Blueger. The penguins lose that. Blueger is a better player on a cheaper contract.
I think a more reasonable move would be JJ Simon and a 2nd for Kap. The cost to dump JJ is Simon, and Kap for a 2nd is fair value.
TOR gets cap relief just like the penguins and Simon to have a decent NHL quality forward on the cheap which helps their cap.
