The Trade To Calgary That Kadri Blocked

Created by: TheFlamingC
Team: 2019-20 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 4, 2019

Trades
CGY
  1. Kadri, Nazem
  2. 2020 3rd round pick (TOR)
  3. 2020 7th round pick (COL)
COL
  1. Brodie, TJ
  2. Jankowski, Mark
Additional Details:
There was a third team in the trade as well. It was Brodie plus either Janko or Bennett and my guess is Janko as he is a C and cheaper. My guess for Team 3 was that Calgary wasn't willing to retain on Brodie so they gave up an assett like a 2nd and a 3rd or a B prospect to someone with lots of cap space like Carolina or Ottawa and they kept the salary and gave Brodie to the Leafs

I don't know about happy but...I definitely didn't want Brodie. But yeah I guess we know why the Calgary/Edmonton deals never happened.

The original deal involved both Zaitsev and Kadri going to Calgary and the return would have included all of Hamonic, Brodie and Jankowski. There were other pieces moving from Toronto to Calgary as well. Deal fell through quickly though because as was previously mentioned, Kadri would not waive to MNC to go to Calgary.

Yep, well not the full complete deal, but the major players were Kadri and Zaitsev ++ for Hamonic, Brodie and Jankowski.

It was nixed pretty quickly I believe, but that was the plan of the trade, that Zaitsev and Kadri would have originally be dealt together, as opposed to dealing them separately.

It makes sense too as Calgary was one of the teams interested in Zaitsev before he came to North America. Thanks again appreciate it

Yes, as far as I know, those were the major players in the very serious discussions that the Leafs and Flames had prior to the two deals the Leafs made on July 1st.
