Oilers don't need a dman

I'd rather the young RHD Ceci behind Larsson in my top 4 than slow older LHD Russell. If the Oilers can find a way to ditch Sekera then:

Nurse / Larsson
Klefbom / Ceci
Russell / Benning

looks a lot better to me. Especially under Tippett. If they can sign Varly to create an expensive but better tandem, then the scoring should follow suit. I think that Ceci trade is great for the Oilers since we really don't know how Pul is going to pan out.

how about ditch rusel and ditch bennign for cap space then you have

Klefbom/Larsson
Nurse/Bouchard
Jones/Sekera

cause then edmonton gains cap space that they can use for the real problem which is forward depth and goaltending, stops the backlogging of their young defencemen that are going to need NHL time next year, gives them the ability to prep the cap space for upcoming contracts that are expiring (Nurse) and they wont have to pay 5M + with term to a guy that has awful offensive output, bad in-depth metrics, and is a giveaway machine.

With your proposal youre suggesting the oilers spend nearly 25M on a dcore that is okay at best (not including an almost impossible to move contract in sekera) when they can have a better dcore for much cheaper and cash in on the savings to address legitimate issues

you know who sucks? Ceci. He's horrible, and this deal is bad for the oil.

there are guys coming up that are cheaper and can be much better than ceci ever will be. Klefbom, Nurse, Bouchard, Sekera and Jones are all part of a serviceable dcore in the NHL for this year. Then the oilers can raise the stock of sekera and larsson through a decent season and trade them at a premium

This changed my mind, I also like the term "giveaway machine." I need that in my vocab. Also if Bouchard is ready for the NHL then yeah, who needs Ceci. I've heard differing things him and about Jones starting the season in the league, but it could be what the oilers need. I'd be happy to see Sekera get better. I like the idea of bringing up Larsson and Sekera's stock to trade at a premium. I didn't realize Holland here was a big Khaira fan.
