Spezza to be Plekanec Replacement

Description

Alzner would be a good fit in DAL who's ALWAYS got one of their top D injured. for a third pair D Alzner's an ironman before this season always ready to go and can play a 4th D role for brief stints if required . 3m cap is a good deal not to mention a great replacement for Methot on third pair as a Shotblocker and Hitter as Alzner always hits Tripple digits (8 times in the last 9 full seasons)

losing Plekanec's means losing someone capable of handling 1300-1400/5000 team faceoffs each season at 55% consistent as if we're even thinking about a playoff run a dominant faceoff center is a 100% must have to mentor Kotkanemi ,Domi and Peca like Plekky was before Retiring .

Koivu was the one i naturally wanted but he's not a rental and MIN likely wouldnt part with him anyways but Spezza is a rental that can be had for picks at the Trade Deadline as Traditionally NHL teams dont give up assets to non contenders before going to the playoffs where depth is tested .(occassionally cast off's are traded due to not fitting new system more then not being good )

MTL's a 4 line team and usually only 2/3 lines up top work so 4th rotate's in to play 3rd most minutes as needed .

Spezza just needs to win faceoffs and get to the bench with Lucic and let Byron carry the puck on a rush . the more time we have in the OZ with our speed and skill the better so getting Spezza who's at 61% FO win rate on the season averaging 15minutes on ice really helps us

Additional Details:

taking lucic's contract with EDM retaining 500K to remind them of the stupid stupid move they made so they wont repeat it by giving Kassian a 8m 8 year deal next . (PC is that dumb we all know it i mean Hall for Larsson ?)

Just be lucky anyone's willing to take him , if we didnt need a goon for 4th line and picks to make our team stronger i'd negotiate a higher retention of 40% straight up for a 1st and 2nd in 2019 (top 3 protected) giving EDM the chance to walk away from their mistake and relieve the cap their team needs to land Bobrovsky or atleast be in the conversation

EDM

Additional Details:

-MTL gives up Hudon a young speedy back checker good for 125 hits a year and plays aggressive but is odd man out due to everyone else having Chemistry

TDG is always on 1st DDL was always on 2nd ,BKA was always on 3rd and Hudon-Peca-Shaw was our regular 4th with Shaw and Hudon being pushed out of their natural home on third line

Benn's a throw in UFA because your LD side is weak and he's good depth

Love the lucic trade and love the idea of spezza in MTL but I don’t know if they’d want alzner back even with retention. I think lucic and spezza could surprise people in MTL though. Don’t think they’d be fourth liners.

i can take Alzner out and let it ride as is to make it work , MTL needs a bulk faceoff guy who can score .

the 4th line isnt the 4th line in MTL
we have two top lines that alternate and two bottom lines that alternate.
we want to keep Kotkanemi's line active but more often hen not they play 4th line minutes when we got a full roster.
(its why Byron and Armia are with him players who get their minutes Via Special teams )

I think spezza would be a great low cost pick up for Habs, bet u could even get him for less than that

i hope MB makes the inquiry at the very least .

at the very least grab a Glendenning for a 3rd or 4th pick to help with faceoffs (i'd much prefer Spezza)

no need for Spezza?

you're forcing KK,MD PD and MP to take 1200 faceoffs a piece roughly with Drouin and Shaw chipping in a couple hundred .
we're just going to hurt our center depth by putting them through that which is why even contenders buy depth for the playoffs (look at TML plekanec )

we have the cap room for the next 3 seasons so taking on Lucic's cap isnt that bad and we can buy him out after that or retain and trade him .

no more injuries due to having no grit to step up and knock out Paquette for boarding Kotkanemi .
Spezza isnt the only option though Glendennings a solid faceoff center who would be cheap

those picks in the 2019 draft could really help us move up in the draft which is the deepest since 2003 when NSH and ANA set themselves us for a decade on 2-3 picks
