I don't think that's enough for EK or MS. I think Ottawa has already turned down better offers

Dream on. no team is offering so much for a one year rental. And for the first overall? C'mon. The fact that EK hasn't been traded by August, and teams have pretty well their roster and cap set, it looks like there aren't many possible buyers for EK.

Karlsson is definitely worth trading for.
He would not necessarily be a 1 year rental in a sign & trade situation.
Even for the perceived #1 overall pick, a team in a win-now mode would probably make this trade.
Colorado I do not perceive to be in a win-now mode, as they still are completing their rebuild, and would probably value that top pick over Karlsson (Ottawa would have to finish in the cellar and Colorado would have to win the lottery anyway, so it is not guaranteed #1 overall).

Karlsson would really fly in the mountain air. He and Barrie would be nice offensive compliments. With EJohnson battling the injury bug much of the time, maybe it is conceivable. Plus they do have a ton of cap space to extend him.

Why wouldn't he be a a one year rental? Sign and trades are so infrequent, and we are into August with no deal, so it look that ship has sailed What's in for EK signing now?
