No thanks on Nylander. Rather give up a first and a prospect for Tanev.

Return is good. but if Nylander will settle for 6 x 6 mill then the Leafs can still afford him. Makes more sense to move either Brown/Kapanen/Leivo and picks for a suitable defensemen.

If Nylander is a long term 6m as you suggest, why do Leaf just get the often injured two year player Tanev is return. Horvat is a 5.5m player, Leafs perceive Nylander's value like Horvat.
Nylander for Tanev, and two rounders might be a more likely traded.

The Leafs can afford Nylander, Matthews, Marner and Tavares. That isn't a question anymore and Dubas has openly said he's going to make it happen. It will be a challenge next year due to Marleau's contract but beyond that, it won't be a huge problem. They have the best player development department in hockey, they may spend more on it then the rest of the league combined. That will allow the team to consistently promote from within when secondary support players price themselves out of town. JVR scores a career high for goals? Let him walk and Johnsson jumps up from the and takes his spot for a fraction of what JVR would command.

Thats how you build a winner. First you get the stars and then you make sure you keep feeding talented players through your system to replenish lost production.

So NO Nylander will not be traded to the Canucks for an oft injured defensive defenceman and a bunch of b prospects. (Dipietro isn't a B prospect, he is the Canucks goalie of the future. He's much better than Demko who wouldn't even be the top goalie prospect for Toronto. Sparks schooled him in the AHL this year.)

Spoken like a person who saw the results but didn't bother to pay attention to the details. The Comets nearly upset the Marlies in this years playoffs, only because of Demko. He stole games and same could not be said for Sparks.
