Winnipeg Edmonton are going to trade...just a matter of what

Created by: scarbrow21
Team: 2018-19 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: May 28, 2018
Published: May 28, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Swap of the teams 1st rounds in 2018-2019 Winnipeg able to draft best C or D available at #10.

EDM gets a PP QB in Myers who can play in the top 4 as RHD and PK. Armia whos a great depth possession/PK guy who can score and still has upside.
WPG gets LHD to replace Enstrom at a reasonable CAP hit by moving from their strong side once Trouba is re-signed to arguably their weakest position.
The 2020 1st round pick is insurance to Myers re-signing. Jets permit EDM to talk to Myers regarding an extension prior to the trade but this is insurance in the event they cannot get him signed.

Edmonton isn't going to give away their 10th overall pick in this insanely deep draft year unless they get a huge reward

If Oilers and Winnipeg are trading for a D it’s for Trouba

Since when has Chiarelli made a GOOD trade???
Hall for Larsson, Reinhart for a 1st and 2nd, Eberle for Strome.

At least in the above proposed trade the Oilers aren't getting THAT bent over. It's either going to be Myers or Faulk likely that the Oilers get and judging based on chiarellis preferences it'll be size based and recency bias. Myers having a good post-season, playoff experience, and the fact the Jets can also give EDM a solid depth guy in Armia that could actually be one of Chiarellis "best trades"...not saying much though

Why does everyone want to send us Myers to be our "PP QB"? Anyone who watches the Oilers would know that McDavid is our PP QB, and RNH on PP2. Myers isn't going to supplant either one of those guys. And at 5v5, he's basically a 2nd or 3rd pairing guy (Myers' 5v5 points/60 is lower than Russell and Benning.)

And he's a UFA in 1 year.

Plus klef contract is easily top 10 best in the league hell no I'm trading him for Myers if we really want him will buy out Russell next year and sign him

That is the problem with your PP. Mcdavid should not be a point man. Neither should RNH. You should have a defenceman who has a hard shot (Byfuglien, Parayko, Burns, Carlsson)
I am not saying that this trade is fair but the Oilers should trade the 10th OA for Myers or Faulk with an extension. And as far as Myers' value goes, he is not valuable on 5v5. His value is on the PP.

A couple things:

- McDavid and RNH don't play the point - they run the pp from the right half wall. They have since they entered the league and pp was poor only last year: these guys are not the problem.
- Edmonton does have d-men that can bomb from the point (Klefbom) that isn't the problem either. Besides, the big point shots don't work anymore because of how the defense sets up. Ergo: Weber has more success at pp shots and goals than any other over the last 5 years, yet Montreal's pp is twice as efficient without him. You need a puck distributor at the point, not a bomber.
- if someone has value on pp but not 5v5 they're nearly worthless: 15+ minutes 5v5 per game vs 2:30 on pp.

First of all, Every good powerplay has a Point man who can bomb the puck. Klefbom may be one, but a smooth skating defenceman like Myers is perfect for any Powerplay. He plays on the second Unit an I do not think there was a single goal that the second unit scored that Myers did not have a point in. Plus Myers is more of a passer than a shooter.

By your philosophy, the oilers are the leagues best PP because they do not use a point man. Even GM peter chiarreli is wrong for publicly saying that he wants a RH PP defenceman in your eyes. The truth is that every powerplay runs better with a smooth skating defencemen who can make plays at the point as well as shoot when needed.

And saying that Myers is worthless is wrong. Less than half of his points are on the PP. By your philosophy wheeler is worthless as well because he led the league in PP assists and so is Laine because he led it in PP goals. Plus 1 year of Kevin Shattenkirk, who has worse numbers than Myers on 5v5, was worth a 1st.
Myers still had 20 Pts on even strength while playing with offensively challenged Dimitry Kulikov. He is a 2nd pairing D-man on almost every team.
The oilers need a PP QB/top 4 RHD and everyone agrees but you.
